Foley, AL – The UC Patriots archery team tallied five national titles and 15 podium finishes to pull away from the field and take home their fifth consecutive USA Archery 3D National Championship Saturday night.  Cumberlands has now won seven of the last eight 3D national titles, while they had two individual national champions and three teams finish atop the podium. 

"This was a tremendous team effort as every division contributed to this title," said Head Coach Kris Strebeck.  "It was awesome seeing some newcomers step up and score some key points throughout the weekend, while our veterans continued to build upon their success and experience."

Jaden Taylor opened the day with a 16-point lead in the men's fixed pins division and added 23 points over the final three targets to capture his first individual national title.  The Barbourville, KY native carded a total score of 467 and hit 22-12's on the tournament.  Teammate Brandon Durham notched his first individual podium finish at a national championship as he tallied a 456 with 17-12's to finish as the national runner-up. 

Madison Cox captured her sixth individual national title, including her fourth straight with strong shooting over the final three targets.  She tallied 30 points over the final three targets to pull away from the field and finish with a 450 (13-12's), 21 points ahead of second place.  Cox ties Courtnie Carr for the most national individual podium finishes with nine as the McKee, KY native has reached the podium in every championship she has competed in. 

In the women's compound division, Brooke Miller edged out teammate Hannah Moose for second place.  Both archers finished with a 455, however, Miller won the 12-count 19 to 18 to earn her second national runner-up finish of her career.  This was Miller's seventh individual podium finish, while Moose has reached the podium four times, three of which came during 3D nationals.
Brianna Laux maintained her runner-up status in the women's recurve division finishing with a 436 with 16-12's.  The freshman tallied 20 points over the final three targets to earn her first national runner-up finish. 

Tyler Woosley closed out the Patriots individual archers this morning with his second individual podium finish.  The sophomore carded a 385, including 12 points over the final three targets to earn the bronze medal and six points towards the team score.

UC tallied a trio of podium finishes in mixed teams, while all four of the Patriots mixed teams scored points.  After earning the top qualifying spot in both the men's and women's fixed pins division the duo of Madison Cox and Jaden Taylor paired up to garner gold in the mixed fixed pins division.  Hannah Moose and Jacob Starnes teamed up for a runner-up finished in mixed compound, while Brianna Laux and Jacob Valentini tallied an 826 to earn bronze.  Kennedy Sumpter and Tyler Woosley earned five points for their fourth place finish with a score of 677.

The Patriots notched five podium finishes in the team rounds highlighted by the women's fixed pin team and women's compound team capturing national titles.  After earning the top-seed and a first round bye, the trio of Cox, Kaitlyn Shields and Ela Smallacombe went 3-0 winning each match by at least eight points.  After defeating Midway in the quarterfinals, UC knocked off Mississippi College 85-78 to advance to the finals.  Going up against Pikeville, the Cumberlands trio defeated the Bears 88-71 to finish atop the podium.

The trio of Marissa Harding, Brooke Miller, and Hannah Moose earned the top-seed in the women's compound division and defeated Lindenwood 89-82 in the semifinals.  They followed that up by outlasting Pikeville 94-90 in the gold medal match to capture the title.

Cumberlands captured a trio of bronze medals during the team rounds, including earning third in both the men's and women's recurve team rounds.  After they both fell in the semifinals both teams rallied to knock off Lindsey Wilson in the bronze medal match.  Reed Goodpaster, Clay Weaver, and Jacob Valentini defeated the Blue Raiders 86-76 on the men's side, while Brianna Laux, Lidia Quezada and Ceridwyn Salyers knocked of Lindsey Wilson 83-77. 

UC's women's barebow team went 2-1 on the day to earn a podium finish.  Entering as the third-seed the trio of Sierra Gray, Micah McDavid, and Kennedy Sumpter defeated Blue Mountain 58-49.  After falling in the semifinals they rallied to defeat Liberty 64-38 to earn third place.  It's the second straight year that Cumberlands earned bronze in this division. 

The trio of Elijah Crawford, Jonathan Morris, and Tyler Woosley won their opening match 64-41 over the Georgia Institute of Technology.  That win propelled the men's barebow team to a fourth place finish earning five points for Cumberlands.  Cumberlands also notched a fourth place finish in the men's compound team division as Blaine Kostrzewski, Jacob Starnes, and Cole Zeug posted a 1-2 record on the afternoon. 

In the final event of the championship, the mixed equipment event, Madison Cox, Brianna Laux, and Jacob Starnes won their first two matches en route to a fourth-place finish to earn five points and close out the championship.

MSC rivals Lindsey Wilson and Pikeville finished second and third, respectively, at the championships.

Cumberlands will now shift their focus towards indoor season, which will begin January 20-22 when they travel to Madisonville, KY for the MSC Indoor Championship.
