Williamsburg, KY – Head Coach
Corey Ruff has this year's men's wrestling program schedule set and ready to go. This year's schedule will consist of four opens and at least 10 duals.
Last season the Pats finished the season with a 7-3 overall dual record. Then in the postseason the Patriots started with taking home the Mid-South Futures Tournament Championship. On the following day UC took home the MSC title, along with
Bryce Nickel and
Aaron Johnson, taking home individual MSC titles in their respective weight class. From there, the Patriots had 10 NAIA qualifiers. At the NAIA National Championships, Cumberlands had Nickel and Johnson earn All-American status, while a few other qualifiers were one match away. The Patriots finished in 12th place.
Looking at this season, the Pats will open the season with their annual Patriot Open in Corbin, KY on November 5
th. The following weekend the team heads to Iowa for the Grand View Open. UC will finish off the month of November at the Life Open in Marietta, GA on the 20
th.
After a two-week break, the Pats return to action in Columbus, KY at the NAIA Challenge Duals on December 11
th. The next weekend Cumberlands will head down to Lakeland, FL to take part in the Fire Duals to end the 2022 portion of the season. Coach Ruff says, "I'm really excited about the Southeastern Duals because we will get exposure and see some nationally contending teams. It will be our only chance to see SEU in a dual, along with Reinhardt and Providence, who are always national contending teams".
2023 will start at the NWCA/ NAIA National Duals on January 6
th and 7
th in Louisville, KY. Then on the 11
th, the Patriots will see their first Mid-South action. They will travel over to Columbia, KY to take on Lindsey Wilson. The next weekend, on the 20
th and 21
st, UC will take part in the Missouri Valley Invite in Marshall, MO. A few days later, on the 25
th, the Pats head up the road to Pikeville, KY for a Tri-Dual. On that Friday, UC travels to Campbellsville for a dual against Campbellsville.
The Patriots will end the regular season with their only two home meets of the season. The first meet will be on January 30
th, against the Phoenix of Cumberland. A week later on February 6
th, UC returns to the mat in a dual against Thomas More.
The post-season will start on the 17
th at the MSC Tournament in Bowling Green, KY. Then on the 3
rd and 4
th of March will be the NAIA National Championship in Wichita, KS.
