NAIA Coaches' Poll: 7
Kansas City, MO- For the first time in program history, UC's women's soccer team holds a third place standing in the NAIA Coaches' Poll. The Pats earned 436 votes after two wins this past week against #18 Lindsey Wilson and (RV) Campbellsville.
Cumberlands 2-0 victory over Lindsey Wilson ended up being a battle from start to finish. UC outshot the Blue Raiders 15-13, with the Pats putting up 7 shots on goal compared to LWC's 6. During the match, graduate student
Abby Baker recorded her first goals of the season. Baker's brace helped propel the Pats towards their 11
th win of the season.
Baker's performance in the match earned her MSC Offensive Player of the Week. Since joining the team in August, she has been an influential part of the Pats offense, helping facilitate goals since the first kickoff.
Later in the week, UC faced off against Campbellsville. The offensive star in this match was
Carola Fontan, who secured her first brace as a Patriot. The game was well-fought between the two teams, each being able to find the back of the net. The Patriots and Tigers both had 8 shots on goal during the match, but the Pats were able to pull ahead and get a 2-1 win.
Thus far, Fontan has proven to be a key part of this squad. Racking up 14 points on the season with six goals and 2 assists. She has played in 14 of the fifteen games, 10 of which she has started.
The Patriots overall record stands at 12-0-3 overall, and 8-0-1 in the Mid-south. To finish up the regular season, they will face off against Thomas Moore and Pikeville.
The next match will be on October 19
th at 5pm in Crestview Hills, KY. UC is paired up with Thomas Moore in their 16
th match of the season.
