Williamsburg, KY – After a strong defensive effort, Patriots center back Samantha Sokolove has been named the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.

In a top-25 matchup against #22 Cumberland, Sokolove anchored UC's defense.  The Hudsonville, MI native was pivotal in limiting the Phoenix to just six shots, including one shot on goal in Cumberlands 3-0 victory. The senior was instrumental in holding Cumberland scoreless for the first time all season.

In addition to her defensive effort, Sokolove also tallied her first goal of the season.  In the 12', Ines Martin Garcia sent a high arching corner kick into the box, where Sokolove headed in the game-winning goal.

Her performance helped UC tally their sixth clean sheet of the season.

Cumberlands will return to action on Thursday, October 15^th, when they host Bethel.  Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. with live video available here.
