Cincinnati, OH - For the fourth time this season the Cumberlands women's bowling team earned a top-three finish as they totaled 8,716 pins to place third at the MSC Cincinnati Classic Sunday afternoon. The Patriots knocked down 3,696 pins over the final four game of the tournament, while UC placed five bowlers in the top-30 of the individual standings, including two that finished top-ten.
UC averaged 968.4 pins per game over the weekend and tallied at least 900 pins in seven of nine games. The Patriots opened the day with 1,016 pins in the sixth game, which was their highest of the day, and closed out the tournament with 2,680 pins over the final three games to be finish second among Mid-South Conference schools.
Paige Frantz's consistency throughout the weekend was a driving factor for the Patriots. Frantz tallied a total pin count of 1,833 lands for sixth place for her fourth top-ten finish of the year. The Lousiville, KY native averaged 203.67 pins per game, and surpassed the 200 pins plateau in six of the nine games. She opened the day with a 213 in the sixth game and closed out with a 206 to climb two spots in the individual standings.
Kiara Abanto finished the tournament just one spot behind her teammate for her third top-ten finish on the season. The senior hit 712 pins over the final four games to close out the tournament with 1,809 pins, averaging 201 per game. Abanto's 211 in the sixth game was her best game of the day and was fifth game of 200+ points in the tournament.
Erika Taylor recorded her highest tournament finish of the season after totaling 1,734 pins. The senior averaged 192.67 pins per game to finish 11
th as she opened day two with a 221, her highest of the day, to claim her second top 20 finish of the year. Taylor's strong day two performance aided her in climbing 11 spots in the ind
Haleigh Lawell dropped 1,696 pins over nine games to place 17
th. The junior averaged 188.44 pins per game, including a 190 in the seventh game, which was her best game of the day.
Allysen Coryell rounded out the top 30 for Cumberlands. The senior clipped 200 pins in two games of the final four games to solidify 28
th place. The McDonough, GA native averaged 182.67 pins per game and tallied 1,644 pins over the weekend.
SCAD took home the trophy this week with a total pin-fall of 9,072 over the weekend. Pikeville finished in second after carding 8,729 pins over nine games, while UT-Southern and Union rounded out the top five with 8,564 and 8,408 pins, respectively.
Cumberlands will be heading to Marietta, Georgia on Saturday, November 5
th to compete in the Bowlero Southern Collegiate Classic.
