NAIA Coaches' Poll: 8
Kansas City, MO- The Patriots earn back-to-back 3
rd place seat in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll with 467 points. UC played just one match this past week against Thomas More, where they secured their 13
th win of the season. The Pats have just one match left of the regular season before heading to the MSC Conference Tournament.
Cumberlands 2-0 win over Thomas More was a nail-biter, with the Patriots waiting until the final minutes of the second half to record a goal. The first goal came off the foot of
Carola Fontan after a deflected shot by
Abby Baker- putting UC up 1-0.
Amalia Wichmann recorded the second goal of the game in the 88
th minute. A free kick was awarded from 40 yards out and Wichmann launched the ball into the back of the Saints net. The defender also limited the Saints offense to just six shot attempts, four of which were on goal. Her performance in match earned herself MSC Defender of the week honors for the first time in her career.
Cumberlands sits in 3
rd place with a winning percentage of 0.929 in 16 matches. They also sit in first place in the NAIA MRPI which takes into account strength of schedule, as well as winning percentage and opponents winning percentage.
The Pats have faced 12, top-ranked opponents this season and remain undefeated. Their biggest win of the season was just a few weeks ago against the reigning National Champions, UT Southern. Cumberlands won a hard-fought battle against the FIrehawks to bring home a 3-2 victory.
