Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Secures MSC Regular Season Title with 6-0 Win Over Pikeville

Williamsburg, KY- For the first time since 1999, the Patriots secure the MSC regular season title with a 6-0 win over Pikeville at the UC Soccer complex. Abby Baker knocked in three goals, as well as career assist leader Laura Navajas, leading goal scorer Jayden Boelter and Olaya Blanco.

Three minutes into the first half, Abby Baker recorded her first goal to put the Patriots on the board. Amalia Wichmann sent the ball flying through the air from outside the 18-yard box, where it found Baker who tapped it into the back of the net putting the Pats up 1-0.

Baker recorded two additional goals during the match, second in the 20th minute, then again in the 75th minute. Baker recorded her first goal as a Patriot in a recent match against Lindsey Wilson, and it was all she needed to spark some offensive damage for the Patriot offense. Her first career hat-trick comes in the final game of the regular season to help secure a MSC regular season title.

Laura Navajas also recorded a goal for the Patriots. In the 17th minute, Selena Barnett passed the ball up the field to Navajas who went 1v1 against the Bears defense and kicked the ball in for goal number two. Navajas was able to take the goalie to the ground and record her second goal of the season. In no surprise, the senior also garnered an assist during the match, and it came on the second goal from Abby Baker.

In the second half, the Patriots did not let off the gas. Jayden Boelter made her first appearance in five games after dealing with an injury that occurred in the match against UT Southern. Boelter was in the game for only fifteen minutes and was able to find the back of the Bears goal. From just outside the 18-yard box, she sent the ball sailing through the air, over the goalkeepers head and into the net for goal number four. The goal marked her 18th of the season which ties her career record set in last year's season.

Goal five of the match came off the foot of Olaya Blanco. A double assist from Jayden Boelter and Rita Aguye Cots, set Blanco up for a shot straight ahead of the goal. Blanco booted the ball into the lower left side of the net for her first goal of the season. The final goal of the game was the last of Baker's which came in the 75th minute.

The Pats out-shot the Bears 22 to 1 during the match, tying a season high 22 attempts that was previous set against Jamestown earlier in the season. The Cumberlands remained undefeated throughout the regular season and defeated all but one MSC opponent- the only tie came against Bethel in late September. This is the first time Cumberlands has won the regular season since 1999, and the first time ever under Head Coach Steve Hamilton.

The Patriots will continue their season, making a post season run at the conference and NAIA tournaments.
