Patriots Women's Bowling Places Third as Abanto Earns All-Tournament Team Honors

Jackson, MI - The UC women's bowling team earned the second consecutive top three finish as they scored 6,453 to placed third at the Crossroads League #1 Tournament Friday afternoon. The Patriots had two bowlers placed in the top-ten of the individual standings, including Kiara Abanto, who closed out the tournament atop the individual leaderboard for her second career win. 

Abanto got the Patriots off to a strong start as she tallied 821 pins over four games.  The senior average 205.25 per game earn a spot on the All-Tournament and capture her first individual win since the 2019-2020 season when she placed first at the Thomas Burris Memorial Tournament. Abanto bowled the highest game of the day, a 257, in game one to put her atop the leaderboard as she extended that lead to a 31-point advantage over the second place finisher.  

Haleigh Lawwell notched a top-ten finish after averaging 186.5 pins per game for a total of 746.  The junior notched her first top-ten finish of her Patriot career coming in sixth place of the individual standings.  Lawwell started strong bowling 193 twice and a 194 over the first three games.  

Allysen Coryell and Paige Frantz  each posted top-20 finished for to balance out the Patriots lineup. Coryell placed 14th after knocking down 675 pins, an average of 168.75 pins per game. Frantz, the freshman from Louisville, started her college career strong totaling 670 pins to lock into 18th place. 

Kaylie Sipes and Erika Taylor split time as the fifth position in UC's line-up during the individual portion.  The duo placed 55th and 63rd, respectively, as Sipes knocked down 373 pins, while Taylor hit 303 pins. 

The scores of the four team games were combined with the scores of the 16 baker-style games to determine the overall final score.  Cumberlands tallied a total of 6,453 pins after the 16 baker-style games as they knocked down 2,865 pins over the final 16 games, averaging 179.06 per game. 

Spring Arbor pulled out the first place victory with a total pin count of 6,495, while Huntington tallied 6,465 to clinch second place. Midway and Marian round out the top five with 6,380 and 6,102 pins each.

Cumberlands will be back in the morning to compete in the second Crossroads League Tournament.
