Grimes, IA – 14^th ranked Pats went to Iowa to wrestle in the Grand View Open. UC had seven top 10 finishes coming from both brackets. James Dosado was the highest finishing Patriot has he finished third in the 157 freshman / sophomore bracket, followed by Bryce Nickel and Dylan Preston finishing fourth in their respective bracket.  

The sophomore started his day off with a 6-5 decision win. Dosado earned that win after notching all six points in the final period. The Ruther Glen, VA native came away with a reversal and a takedown followed by an escape and an extra point for riding time. In his next match, Dosado fell behind in the first period 6-2, but saved his best for last as he got an escape in the second period and a takedown early in the third period. A few seconds after the takedown he would get two more points from a two-point nearfall to take the 7-6 lead and win by decision.  He followed that with a 5:44 fall in his next match. Dosado earned a 9-4 decision win in the quarterfinals after getting four takedowns during the match. He would then suffer a loss in the semifinal match by way of a 3-1 decision. In the blood rounds he would pick up his next two wins by forfeit to take home third place.

Nickel opened the day with a major decision win over Josh Bower of Simpson in the 141 open bracket. In that win, the senior notched five takedowns and a four-point nearfall. The fourth ranked Phoenix, AZ native then took down 21^st ranked Donavan Parn (Missouri Valley) in a 9-4 decision. In that match, Nickel notched an early takedown followed by an escape in the second period for a 3-1 lead headed into the third period. In that final period, he would get three more takedowns to secure the victory. In the quarterfinals match, Nickel notched two takedowns and an escape for a 5-1 win over Blake Cushing (Nebraska). In the semifinal match he would suffer a 7-4 decision loss but rebounded to takedown Jordan Mitchell of Life in a 6-4 decision. After falling behind early, Nickel got two escapes and a takedown to gain the lead. In the final period he would get another takedown to get the win. In the third-place match Nickel suffered another loss, this time to second ranked Shea Ruffridge.

Preston wrestled in the 165 freshman / sophomore bracket. The Georgetown, KY native suffered a loss in his first match but followed with two straight fall victories. Both falls came in the opening period, he got the first one done in 2:44, while the second one came in 1:42. The sophomore then picked up a major decision win over Anthony Sign of Ottawa. Preston took control of that match early, after getting an escape followed by a takedown and a two-point nearfall. Then in the final period, he notched another escape followed by two takedowns and an extra point for riding time. After picking up an 8-2 decision win, Preston notched a fall in 1:25 to earn a spot in the third-place match. Preston would have to medical forfeit as he already hit the six-match threshold.

Austin Franco, TJ Huber, Seth Lambers, and Gabe Jacobs all placed sixth in their respective weight classes.

Cumberlands will head down to Marietta, GA to wrestle at the Life Open on Saturday November 19. The first matches are set to start at 9 am.
