James Dosado takes home his first MSC Wrestler of the Week honors for his performance at the Grand View Open. Dosado finished with a 6-1 record as he took third place in the 157 freshman / sophomore bracket.
The sophomore started the Open with a 6-5 decision win over Cael Palmer of Grand View. Dosado earned that win after scoring all six points in the final period, those points came by way of a reversal, a takedown followed by an escape and an extra point for riding time. In his next match the Ruther Glen, VA native fell behind in early in the first period 6-2 but saved his best for last. In the second period he notched an escape followed by a takedown early in the third period. A few seconds after the takedown he earned two points from a two-point nearfall to take the 7-6 lead and win by decision.
Dosado followed that win with his third fall of the season this time in 5:44 over Andrew Johnson (St Ambrose). In the quarterfinals, Dosado earned a 9-4 decision win against David Capron of Triton. In that match he notched four takedowns. He would then suffer a loss in the semifinal match by way of a 3-1 decision. Then in the blood rounds he picked up his next two wins by forfeit to take home third place.
Dosado now has an 8-3 record on the year with three falls. Cumberlands will head down to Marietta, GA to wrestle at the Life Open on Saturday November 19. The first matches are set to start at 9 am.
