Powder Springs, GA – The 10^th ranked Patriots went down to the Life Open and got seven top six finishes. Both Chandlar Akins and Weston Melvin took home first place finishes in their respective weight class brackets.

The seventh ranked Akins, wrestled in the 125 Open bracket, where he went 4-0 on the day. After getting a bye in the first round, the junior got his first win by forfeit. In the quarterfinals, Akins took on 12^th ranked Dominic De'altonaga (Vanguard) and got a major decision win. Then in the semifinal match against 17^th ranked Esau Bazilme from Southeastern, the Alabaster, AL native notched a 3-2 decision win. In the first-place match, Akins got the win over Matthew Terrence (Vanguard) by way of a 6-5 decision.

Melvin continued his strong start to the season with his second first place finish of the year. The Washington Court House product started his day with a 5-2 decision win over Nolan Jones of Midway in 149 weight class of the freshman / sophomore bracket. He followed that performance with back-to-back fall victories, the first was in 1:37, while the second was in 4:50. In the semifinals, Melvin got a 6-5 decision win. The Freshman ended his day with a 9-5 decision win over Domenic DeFalco (Campbell) to take home the title.

Adonis Boyd earned a second-place finish in the 125 freshman / sophomore bracket. Boyd opened his day with a 4-2 decision win. The sophomore followed with a 27-10 tech fall victory over Tyrique Simms of Midway. In the quarterfinals, the Jeffersonville, IN native got a major decision win over St. Thomas's Stephen Moreno. Then in the semifinal match, Boyd got the 5-4 decision win over Ellis Haney of Cumberland. Boyd would suffer his first loss in the finals match to place second.

In the 141 bracket, Chasen Brown earned fourth place, while Trenton Pagaduan took home fourth place in the 133 freshman / sophomore bracket. Marc LeGaspe earned fifth place in the 149 freshman / sophomore bracket, and Victor Zamora took home sixth place in the 165 freshman / sophomore bracket.

Cumberlands will have a few weeks off before heading to Columbia, KY for the NAIA Challenge Duals on December 11th. The first match is set to start at 10 am Eastern Time
