Chandlar Akins takes home MSC Wrestler of the Week honors for the first time in his career. The 10
th ranked Patriots went down to the Life Open and Akins earned a first-place finish in the 125 open bracket.
Akins went 4-0 on the day, with two decisions, one major decision and one forfeit on his way to first place. After getting a bye in the first round, the junior got his first win by forfeit. In the quarterfinals, Akins took on 12
th ranked Dominic De'altonaga (Vanguard) and got a major decision win. Then in the semifinal match against 17
th ranked Esau Bazilme from Southeastern, the Alabaster, AL native notched a 3-2 decision win. Then in the first-place match, Akins took on Matthew Terrence of Vanguard, and won by a 6-5 decision.
Akins is sitting at 7-1 on the season so far. He has five wins by decisions and one major decision victory. At the Patriot Open, Akins earned a second-place finish in the 125 open bracket.
Cumberlands will have a few weeks off before heading to Columbia, KY for the NAIA Challenge Duals on December 11th. The first match is set to start at 10 am Eastern Time.
