Patriots Record Several Season-Best in Win over Pioneers

Williamsburg, KY – The (RV) Patriots women's basketball team tallied season-best for assists, blocks, steals and points as they closed out the Patriots Classic with a 105-62 win over Campbellsville Harrodsburg Friday morning on Randy Vernon Court.  In front of a packed house for Education Day, Cumberlands improves to 4-0 overall on the season.

Kassie Monday led the way with a season-high 23 points and six steals, while Kaylie Monday added 13 points, five assists, and four steals in the game.  Victory Fredricks chipped in nine points and nine assists, while Joy Kendricks notched a career-high 10 points and five assists.  Mackenzie Babb added eight rebounds, while Babb and Fredricks notched five blocks apiece. 

The Patriots opened the game with a three-point by Kassie Monday coupled with a pair of assists from Channing Lewis to go ahead 7-0 a minute into the contest.  The two teams traded baskets as Monday added two more steals and fast break layups extended the lead to 15-6 with 5:53 left.  Less than a minute later a Casey Coleman layup sparked a 13-0 Cumberlands run that included four points from Lewis to make it 28-8.  UC closed out the quarter on an 8-2 run which was capped off by a steal from Whitney Caldwell and layup by Kaylie Monday making it 39-13.

Destiny Haworth got in on the scoring in the second quarter with a layup on the first possession.  The Pioneers went on an 11-3 run before Fredrick added five points, two rebounds, and a block to make it 49-24 with 3:54 remaining.  The Patriots closed out the first half Joy Kendrick connecting with Brittni Allison and Whitney Caldwell from long range to take a 60-30 halftime lead.

UC opened the second half similar to the start of the game, on a 7-0 run, with five points from Kassie Monday.  Two minutes later, Patriots notched three steals and went on an 8-2 run with triples from Monday and Haworth extending the lead to 75-34.  Lakin Burke added four points in the quarter as the two teams played even over the final six minutes keeping the Patriots in front 81-44.

Kendrick was dominant in the fourth quarter with eight points and three assist, while Babb added six points, seven rebounds, and three blocks over the final ten minutes.  The duo combined for UC's first five points before Kendrick dished out to Caldwell, who drained her second three-pointer of the contest making it 81-47 with 7:31 left.  The Pioneers went on a 6-3 run, before Kendrick found Allison for a jumper and drained a three herself making it 96-55.  Cox, Babb, and Kendrick scored the final nine Patriot points for the 105-62 final.

The win was UC's 450 home win in their program's history as the Patriots have won 69.8% of their home games.  Cumberlands finished with 14 blocks, which was the most since November 11, 2017 when they had 11 blocks against Webber.  UC also notched 23 steals, 42 rebounds, and 27 assists in the win.
