Bowling Green, KY – The postseason is where the best players step up in the biggest moments and for the third-ranked Patriots it meant Laura Navajas stepping up with a season-high five points in UC 4-1 quarterfinals win over Shawnee State.  Her efforts helped Navajas make Mid-South Conference women's soccer history Monday as she becomes the first player in the history of the conference to earn both offensive and defensive player of the week honors in the same season.

Navajas was instrumental in the Patriots taking a 3-0 lead 10 minutes into the contest as all five of her points came during that stretch. In the opening minutes of the game Rita Aguye crossed the ball to the middle of the field to Navajas, who used two touches before pushing it forward to Selena Barnett for the first goal of the game.  Three minutes later the Miranda de Ebro, Spain native got behind the defense for a 1v1 with the keeper and slid the ball into the left corner of the goal making it 2-0, five minutes into the game.

The senior wasn't done as five minutes later she notched her third career multi-goal game and her first since September 3, 2021.   On the play, Navajas was leading a transition up the field broke to the right to get around one defender before putting a well-placed shot into the left corner of the net giving the Patriots a 3-0 lead 10:40 into the game.

Navajas has tallied four goals, a team-best nine assists, and 17 points on the season. The senior continues to add to her program leading assists total which is now up to 41.

Cumberlands returns to the pitched Wednesday, November 9, when they host fifth-seed Campbellsville in the semifinals of the MSC Tournament.  The game is slated for 4 p.m. with live video available here.
