Austin Franco started this dual with a 6:05 fall over Deven Altenburg-Lasher to take a 6-0 lead in the 125 match. The Argos responded with a win in the 133 match. Then in the 141 match, Nickel notched a 10-0 major decision win over Dante Reviglio. In that match, Nickel got a takedown in both the first and second periods. In the third period, he got six points on his way to a win. Luchau followed with a fall in 27 seconds over Dougie Swanson in the 149 matchup; this put the Pats up 16-4.
Ty Lehman added to the lead with a 4-2 decision win in the 157 match, he got the win over 16th-ranked Aden Graves. In this match, Lehman notched an early takedown, followed by an escape in the second period and an extra point for ride time. Black would get the final win of the dual in the 165 match. He took down 22nd-ranked Bridger Hall by an 8-5 decision. After a stalemate first period, Black notched an escape followed by a takedown. Black got another escape right before the period ended. Then in the final period, he notched two more takedowns to go on and win. Providence won the next five matches to take the dual 25-22.
15th Reinhardt (PDF)
UC picked up five wins in this dual but fell short 22-15; all five wins were by decisions. Franco got the first win in a 9-4 decision over Angel Banda. The match started with a takedown from Franco. Then in the second period, Franco notched a reversal followed by a four-point near fall. Later in that period, he got another escape. The Pats next win came from Nickel in the 141 bout, as he took down, 15th-ranked Dawson Bates. In that match, Nickel got a takedown in the opening period. Then in the second, he got an escape and a takedown right before time expired. Nickel would get an extra point for riding time for the 6-2 win. Then in the 149 match, Luchau made a late rally to get the 3-2 decision win over Cole Luallen. Going into the final period trailing 1-0, Luchau chose bottom and notched an escape to tie the match. Then he got a takedown with 15 seconds left to take a 3-1 lead; Luallen was able to escape, but time expired. Next in the 165 matchup, Black took down eighth-ranked Matt Jenkins in a 10-6 decision. Black opened the match with two takedowns and an escape. In the second period, he notched another escape, followed by another two takedowns for the 10-5 lead. Jenkins notched an escape for the only point in the final period. In the 197 bout,
Jovon Howe got an 8-2 decision win over Kyle Mcgill. Howe went up early after notching two takedowns. In the second period, he got a two-point near fall; in the final period, he recorded an escape and a riding time point.
3rd Southeastern (PDF)
The Pats got three wins in this dual. Starting with Nickel in the 141 matchup, he got a 6-0 decision win over Chris Kelly. Nickel took a 2-0 lead with a late takedown in the first period. Then in the third period, Nickel scored four points to win the match. Then in the 149 bout, Luchau took down Maxwell Kauffman in a 7-3 decision. The match started with back-to-back takedowns from Luchau, followed by a takedown with eight seconds left in the second period. In the final period, Luchau notched an escape to get the win. Then in the 165 match, Black took down Izac Martinez. Black notched his first points in the second period in that match with a takedown. Then in the third period, he got an escaped followed by two takedowns and an extra point for ride time.
Cumberlands will end the 2022 portion of the season with a 2-5 record. 2023 will start with the NAIA/ NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals on the 6
th and 7
th of January in Louisville, KY.
