Four Players in Double Figure Not Enough as Patriots Fall

Campbellsville, KY – Despite having four players in double-figures the #24 UC women's basketball team couldn't overcome a slow start as they fell to #3 Campbellsville 103-75 Thursday night at Powell Athletic Center.  With the win the Tigers improve to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in conference play, while the Patriots move to 8-3 overall and 3-3 against the MSC.

Destiny Haworth led the way with 15 points, including sinking a trio of three-pointers.  Kaylie Monday added 11 points, six assists, and three rebounds, while Kassie Monday netted 10 points to go along with four assists.  Victory Fredricks added 11 points and six rebounds as Casey Coleman and Channing Lewis tallied eight points apiece.

Campbellsville jumped out to a 4-0, lead, however, Channing Lewis converted a layup to get the Patriots on the board.  The Tigers went on a 7-2 run, before Casey Coleman grabbed an offensive rebound a put it back to make it 11-6 with 6:52 remaining.  Campbellsville added seven unanswered points to extend their lead to 18-6 midway through the opening period.  Joy Kendrick dished out assists to Destiny Haworth and Coleman as UC got it to 20-10 with 3:19 left.  The Tigers closed out the quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 27-12 edge.

The Tigers opened the second quarter on a 16-4 run over the first five minutes of the quarter to extend their lead to 43-16.  Kaylie Monday converted a jumper for Cumberlands, their second field goal of the period.  That sparked the Patriots offense as Coleman added a jumper before Haworth found Monday from long range to cut it to 47-23 with 2:28 left.  UC closed out the quarter on a 5-4 run as Coleman connected with Haworth for a three-pointer to cut it 51-28 at the break.

Campbellsville netted six unanswered points to start the third quarter before Kassie Monday found Haworth in the corner for a three-pointer as Coleman added a jumper to make it 59-33 with 8:25 left.  A minute later, Kaylie Monday found Haworth for another triple, giving her a team-high 13 points.  Haworth added a jumper to spark a 7-2 run, which was capped off by a three-pointer from Jaiden Cox making it 74-45 with 3:25 remaining.  The two teams traded baskets over the closing minutes of quarter as Campbellsville took an 82-52 lead.

The two teams traded baskets twice in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter before Fredricks completed a three-point play to cut it to 91-59 with 6:19 left.  Kassie Monday followed that with consecutive steals and fastbreak layups to cap off the 7-0 Patriots run.  Cumberlands continued to work the ball inside as each of their final six baskets came from inside the paint as Lakin Burke, Fredricks, and Lewis each scored twice for the 103-75 final.

The Patriots return to the court Saturday, December 10, when they return to the O. Wayne Rollins Center to face Lindsey Wilson.  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. with live video available here.
