2/11/2022 10:13:00 PM

Bowling Green, KY – The UC women's bowling team battled through the loser's bracket on Saturday to stay alive heading into the final day of the Mid-South Conference Tournament. These matchups are a double elimination, best of seven baker style games, meaning the first team to win four games will advance to the next round.

The Patriots came out of the gate hot as the four seed against 13th ranked Blue Mountain College, winning four straight games advancing to round two. Here Cumberlands faced off against the Bears of Shawnee State in a seven game thriller. UC dropped the first two matches 209-205 and 198-147 before taking a pair of their own to tie the series two to two (153-172, 166-209). The Bears would win the fifth game 172-140, with UC pushing it to a game seven after a 191- 210 win in game six. Shawnee State would edge Cumberlands out in the final game with a 194-159 victory, sending UC to the loser's bracket for the remainder of the tourney.

UC had another nail-biter in round three, sending Tennessee Wesleyan home in seven games. The Pats dropped the first game of the series 136-166 before winning a game of their own 178-160. Wesleyan took the next two games, 184-198 and 116-168, while the Pats battled back taking two themselves (178-133, 167-166). Both teams battled in the seventh game, knowing the loser would be sent home, and the Patriots came out on top with a score of 161-148.

Cumberlands would then beat number 8 Union in the fourth round 4.5 to 2.5 after tying the second game of the series. UC won in the third, fourth, and fifth games, clinching the win in the seventh with a 211-134 victory. The Patriots then sought redemption against Shawnee State, who beat them earlier in the day. Cumberlands came out strong taking the first three games 180-156, 207-161, and 190-127. They would drop game four 182-224 before clinching the victory in the fifth game 208-156, sending the Bears home.

The Patriots will go head to head with number three Campbellsville Saturday morning at 9:00 AM CT for a spot in the loser's bracket finals. The winner will face Pikeville at 11:00, with UT Southern waiting in the finals after that.
