Williamsburg, KY – The (RV) Cumberlands women's basketball team had four players in double figures as they defeated Lindsey Wilson 75-70 on senior day Saturday afternoon on Randy Vernon Court. With the win, the Patriots improve to 17-10 overall and 11-8 in conference play, while the Blue Raiders move to 13-12 and 8-9 against the MSC.
Channing Lewis led the way for UC with 16 points and nine rebounds, while
Kassie Monday added 15 points and five assists in the win.
Shelby Moore and
Abbi Douglas netted 12 points apiece, while the duo combined for six boards and four assists.
Kaylie Monday dished out a five assists in the win, as UC two seniors,
Reagan Begole and
Abbey Estes added five points and six rebounds.
UC took an early lead as Lewis grabbed an offensive board and put it home to open the game which was followed with a
Kassie Monday layup to make it 4-0 a minute into the first quarter. The Patriots added an 8-0 run, capped off with an Estes three-pointer, extending the lead to 12-2 with 3:50 left. The two teams traded baskets over the final minutes of the opening quarter with the Patriots getting layups from Begole and Douglas to take a 22-12 advantage.
The Patriots strong play continued in the second quarter as Douglas found Moore for a jumper, before adding a layup of her own to make it 26-14 with 8:29 remaining. Cumberlands went on a 7-2 run that included a pair of assists and a three from
Kassie Monday to extend the lead to 33-16, UC's largest lead of the game, with 6:20 remaining. Lindsey Wilson battled back with an 11-4 run, before
Kassie Monday dished it down low to Lewis for a layup to give the Patriots a 39-27 advantage with 2:13 remaining in the first half. Sydnie Hall hit from long range for the Blue Raiders cutting the lead to 39-30 at the break.
Lindsey Wilson utilized a 7-2 run to open the third quarter and cut the deficit to 41-37, however, layups from Moore and
Kassie Monday pushed the Patriots lead back to eight points. The two teams traded baskets over the next several minutes as Moore converted a pair of layups to make it 52-45 with 2:26 left. Douglas netted the final five Patriot points of the third quarter as Cumberlands took a 57-51 edge into the final period.
The Blue Raiders opened the fourth quarter on a 7-1 run to tie the game at 58-58 with 8:05 left. The Patriots responded with Moore sinking a pair from the charity stripe coupled with a
Kassie Monday jumper to put UC back in front 62-58, two minutes later. After the two teams traded layups, Douglas dished it to Haworth, who drained a triple giving Cumberlands a 67-60 lead midway through the quarter. Lindsey Wilson cut the lead to a one-possession game, however, the Lewis sank a pair of free throws as
Kaylie Monday hit from long range to extend the lead to 72-64 with 1:14 left. Lewis added a layup as Lindsey Wilson netted the final four points for the 75-70 final.
This marks Cumberlands first win over Lindsey Wilson since March 5, 2015. The Patriots finished with 38 points in the paint and 14 second chance points in the win.
UC will return to the court Monday, February 14, when they host Freed-Hardeman. Tip-off is set 6 p.m. with live stats available
