Bowling Green, KY – The Cumberlands women's bowling team fought for a third place finish at the Mid-South Conference tournament in Bowling Green on Saturday. This was the final day of the three-day event. The Patriots found themselves in the loser's bracket semi-finals match to start Saturday morning.
UC matched up against the third ranked Tigers of Campbellsville Saturday morning in an elimination game for a spot in the loser's bracket finals. CU jumped out to a one game lead with a score of 139-156. The Patriots would respond with a win of their own (209-202) before dropping gamed three and four 150-158 and 178-213. With their backs against the wall, Cumberlands would win three straight games, 209-179, 176-113, and 168-159 to take match and earn a top-three placing.
Pikeville awaited UC in the finals of the loser's bracket, the winner to face UT Southern in the championship match. The Bears proved too much for the Patriots in the second match of the day, as they took the win four to zero. They lost the first 196-146, while dropping game two by only four pins 182-178. UPike would round out their victory with scores of 215-198 and 205-183.
UT Southern would drop their first match to Pikeville in the finals, pushing it to a second best-of-seven series. Tennessee Southern proved too much for the Bears as they took the MSC Championship 4-1.
The Patriots are set to compete again at the Hoosier Classic on February 19
th, but will need an at-large bid to make into the NAIA National Tournament.
