Kingsport, TN – Maria Basto set a new school record after posting a career-best time of 56.77 in the 100 back as the Cumberlands women's swimming & diving team extends their lead after two days of competition at the Mid-South Conference Championships Friday night.  The Patriots notched nine podium finishes, including a trio of wins to have 574 points.

Basto began the day clocking a 57.11 in the prelims to break the school record and achieve an "A" standard before following that up in the finals with a 56.77.  That time is the second fastest time in the NAIA this season.

The sophomore also led off Cumberlands 200 medley relay.  The trio of Kayana Cook, Hanne te Velthuis, and Rebecca Loftus joined Basto to post a winning time of 1:46.17 in the event.

Cumberlands swept the podium in the 200 free as te Velthuis clocked a 1:54.39 to capture her second individual conference title of the meet.  Ali Pecore finished runner-up in the event touching the wall in 1:55.35, while Leah Thomas earned the bronze medal after clocking a 1:56.40.

The 200 free trio joined forces with Basto on the 800 free relay where UC set a new meet record with a winning time of 7:46.87.  That time is the second fastest time in the NAIA this season.

UC placed three swimmers in the top-six of the 100 breast stroke, including the conference runner-up Ashley Schoenlein who went 1:07.69.  Cook clocked a 1:08.65 to place fourth in the event, while Kaisey Speck finished sixth touching the wall in 1:09.59.

Isabella Cooksey recorded her second podium finish of these championships earning bronze in the 400 IM.  The freshman clocked a time of 4:40.83, which is a season-best by three seconds.   Alli Lovell edged out Sara Overly for sixth placed as the finished with a time of 4:51.11 and 4:52.64, respectively.

Anastasiia Shatalova touched the wall in 1:00 57 to finish sixth in the 100 back, while Liberty Poley won the consolation final with a time of 1:00.99.  Emilia Martinez Morales clocked a 1:03.09 to place 13^th.

Three Patriots advanced to the finals of the 100 fly led by Martinez Morales who touched the wall in 1:00.61 to finish eighth.  Austyn Crawford won the consolation final with a time of 1:01.35 as Riley Cerqueira went 1:02.60.

Earning her second silver medal of the championship Emma Lehmkuhl scored a 205.10 on the three-meter board.

Indiana Wesleyan is in second place with 454 points, while Loyola's 329 points have them in third place.

The Patriots will look to capture their tenth straight MSC crown tomorrow when they compete in the final day of the MSC Championship.  Prelims are set to start at 9 a.m. with finals taking place tomorrow night beginning at 5 p.m.  Live video of the event can be found here.
