A Decade of Dominance As UC Records Tenth Straight Conference Title

Kingsport, TN – The third-ranked UC women's swimming & diving team record six podium finishes, including a pair of wins, to notched their tenth consecutive Mid-South Conference championship Saturday night at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.  In addition to take home the team trophy with a score of 813, Hanne te Velthuis was named the MSC Swimming of the Year. 

Te Velthuis capped off her championship with her third individual conference title, this time coming in the 100 free where she clocked a time of 52.35. The win there helped the sophomore etch her name into the Patriot record books, alongside Charlotte Parent, Christina Klouda, and Mendy de Rooi as Patriot swimmers who have garnered this honor.

Maria Basto tallied her second "A" cut of the meet as she went 2:02.35 to finish runner-up in the 200 back.  That time is the second fastest time in school history and is the second fastest time in the NAIA this season.  Libby Poley wet 2:07.68 in the finals to finish fourth in the event.

Anastasiia Shatalova battled te Velthuis in the 100 free and earned a runner-up finish after clocking a 52.51.  Riley Cerqueira placed eighth with a time of 54.33, while Rebecca Loftus went 54.27 to win the consolation final.  Austyn Crawford and Leah Thomas went 54.63 and 54.74, respectfully.

UC also tallied a pair of bronze medal finishes from Ali Pecore and Ashley Schoenlein.  Pecore touched the wall in 18:06.46 in the mile, while Schoenlein finished the 200 breast with a time of 2:26.27.  Both freshman reach the podium multiple times at the meet.

Keyleigh Hagan and Schoenlein worked together in the 1650 free as they finished sixth and seventh, respectively, with times of 18:45.71 and 18:47.85.  In the 200 breast, Alli Lovell dropped three seconds off her prelims time to place sixth (2:31.52) as Kaisey Speck won the consolation final (2:33.25).

In the final event of the meet, the 400 free relay, Pecore Shatalova, Basto and te Velthuis set a new meet record with a winning time of 3:31.72.  That time is the second fastest time in the NAIA this season.

The Patriots will now await the selection process to see, who gets invited to the 2022 NAIA National Championship, which is being held March 2-5 in Columbus, GA.
