Gabe Jacobs wrestled six times and won all six matches to improve his record to 25-7. Jacobs placed first at the Cumberland Open and helped propel the Patriots past Campbellsville in a dual.
For the week, the Gulf Breeze, Fl native came away with four falls and a major decision, along with a medical forfeit win, starting on Monday. Coming into the 197-match UC trailed Campbellsville 19-12. Jacobs would step on the mat to take on 16
th ranked David Richardson. In the first period, Jacobs got an early takedown which put him in a position to get a fall in 2:36. That six-point fall brought the Patriots within one point at 19-18, swinging the momentum in UC's favor.
Then on Saturday at the Cumberland Open, Jacobs went 5-0 on his way to a first-place finish. In the first match he took on Elliot Grinder (Cumberland) and won that one with a 37 second fall. Next, he took on Ruston Robinson (Reinhardt) and won in a 3:53 fall. Then in the quarterfinals, he would take on Tony Rogers (Life), where he notched a 10-2 major decision. Then in the semifinals, he got a 4:23 fall over Hunter James (Menlo). Jacobs then got a medical forfeit win over 3
rd ranked Trevor Lawson (Lindsey Wilson), for first place.
Patriots will end the regular season on Feb 9 at home in a dual against Lindsey Wilson. The dual is set to start at 7 pm, but UC will start senior day celebrations at 6:45.
