Kansas City, MO – Coming off their first win over a NAIA top-ranked opponent, the Patriots women's basketball team has climbed their way into the NAIA Top-25 Poll released by the NAIA national office Wednesday. The Patriots earned 15 points to be receiving votes, making it the second straight season that they have been mentioned in the poll.
The Patriots are 15-10 on the season, including a 9-8 mark in Mid-South Conference play, so far this season. Cumberlands signature win came last Saturday when they knocked off then top-ranked Thomas More 87-79. UC is 12-2 at home this season as they look to close out the regular season strong with three of their final five games being played on Randy Vernon Court.
UC has four players averaging double-figures led by
Kassie Monday, who has tallied 14.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game this season.
Abbi Douglas, the reigning MSC Player of the Week, is tallying 13.5 points and 5.0 boards per game, while
Destiny Haworth and
Kaylie Monday are at 13.1 and 11.0 points per game, respectfully.
As a team, the Patriots are shooting 38.6% from behind-the-arc, which is second best in the NAIA. Haworth is leading MSC and is ranked sixth in the country converting at a 48.3% from long range.
Kaylie Monday and Douglas are both ranked top-five in the conference in steals, while
Kassie Monday's 3.6 assists per game are fifth best in the Mid-South.
Southeastern earned 591 points, including 20 first-place votes to be atop the poll, while MSC rival Thomas More is ranked second with 561 points and the final first place vote. Westmont, Marian, and Campbellsville round out the top-five, while MSC foes Georgetown and Bethel are also receiving votes.
The Patriots return to the court Thursday, February 10, when they host Cumberland in the O. Wayne Rollins Center. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. with live stats available
