Williamsburg, KY – The UC archery team had a strong show at the USA Indoor Archery National Championships recording six school records, four podium finishes and a pair of national champions, as USA Archery announces the final results Monday afternoon.
Madison Cox,
Jase Boils, and
Tyler Woosley each captured an individual national title in their respective division.
Cox continues to be one of the top archers in the country as not only did she capture the gold medal she also set the USA Archery national record for both a 600 and 1200 round score. The junior carded a 596 on the final day, including a perfect 300 over the final ten ends to break the 600 round record set a year ago. That score also propelled Cox to a national record score of 1191 for the 1200 round breaking Sarah Purtee's record of 1177 set in 2020. The McKee, KY native hit 111 ten's over the two days and opened with 595. It is Cox's second gold medal this season and fourth of her career, which ties her with Courtnie Carr for most in program history.
Competing in his first indoor collegiate national championship, Woosley notched his first collegiate national title in the men's barebow division. The freshman becomes the first UC archer to podium in a men's barebow division as he carded a school record of 953. Woosley opened the tournament strong shooting a 263 and 240 on the first day and followed that up with a 450 on day two to win the event by seven points. He also surpassed the previous school record of 890 en route to the gold medal.
Cumberlands men's compound division posted four of the top-five scores in country as Boils led a quartet of Patriots in breaking the school record shooting an 1183. The senior opened nationals carding a 296 and closed out the championship with a 298 out of 300 to give him the national title by two points. That score also set a school record by eight points and gave Boils his second individual national title. Boils moves into third in program history in national titles and is fourth in podium finishes with four.
Cole Zeug notched a national runner-up finish in the men's compound division to give UC its final podium finish of the championship. The freshman tallied an 1181, including hitting 101 ten's, while carding a 593 over his final 600 round to climb notch his first collegiate podium finish.
Carson Sapp and
Tanner Barker holds the third and fourth best score in program history to tally a top-five finish at the championship. Sapp carded an 1180 with 100 ten's, while Barker finished one point back at 1179 to place fifth overall.
Blaine Kostrzewski added a top ten finish as his 1171 had him finishing eighth overall.
The Patriots have a pair of top-five finishes in the women's compound division.
Hannah Moose was UC's top qualifier finishing one spot off the podium in fourth place. Moose carded a career-best 1150 to hold the third highest qualifying score in program history and is one spot ahead of
Brooke Miller, who recorded an 1149 with 69 tens to place fifth overall.
Madison Grimm and
Danielle Woodie shot an 1135 and an 1131 respectively to finish 14
th and 19
th.
Notches UC's final top-five finish was
Kaitlyn Shields, who finished fourth in the women's bowhunter division. The Saginaw, MI native closed out the championships with a 271 to finish her 1200 round with an 1168. Shields hit 89 tens over the two day tournament.
Hollyann Lewis notched a top-ten finish as she shot an 1150 to place eighth overall.
In men's bowhunter UC tallied a pair of top-ten finishes.
Hunter Larese was the Patriots leader as he tied the school record of 1183 to place sixth overall.
Brandon Durham finished two spots back in the individual standings as he carded a 1178, which is a career-best and the sixth best qualifying score in the program.
Elliott Cross carded an 1163 to finish 17
th in the division.
Katie Karr broke the women's barebow school record by 86 points en route to a top-ten finish. The senior had a strong opening day hitting 481 and finishing the tournament with an 872. She hit eight tens over the two day tournament.
Elijah Crawford also notched a ninth place finish in the men's barebow division. The Somerset, KY native carded an 885 with 14 tens to post the third best qualifying score in the program's history.
UC's final school record came in the men's recurve division as
Jacob Valentini carded a 1095. Valentini closed out nationals with consecutive 279 as he hit 46 tens.
Ceridwyn Salyers notched Cumberlands final top-ten finish as her 1082 placed her ninth in the women's recurve division. That score ist he second highest score in program history.
Lidia Quezada placed 14
th in the division after shooting a 1063.
In total there were 613 total archers from across the US with each of them competing at a specific regional. Cumberlands took part in the Georgia regionals that took place February 12-13.
UC will now focus on outdoor season with the USA Outdoor Regionals taking place April 13-15 at the UC All-Purpose Field.
