UC Swimming & Diving Wraps Up Season Ranked Fourth

NAIA Top 10 Coaches' Poll

Kansas City, MO – After posting their fourth consecutive top-five finish at the NAIA National Championships, the Cumberlands women's swimming & diving team closes out the season ranked fourth in the postseason NAIA Coaches' Poll, announced by the national office Friday.  Cumberlands tallied 324 points to be the highest MSC team in the poll.

UC had 14 swims that placed in the top eight of their respective events earning All-American honors, including five Patriots earning individual honors.  Basto tallied All-American honors in each of her three individual events.  The sophomore went 56.00 to break the school record and finish as the national runner-up in the 100 back.  Basto placed third in the 200 back going 2:02.25, while she clocked a 2:06.81 to place fifth in the 200 IM.

Emma Lehmkuhl and Hanne te Velthuis each recorded multiple NAIA All-American honors.  Lehmkuhl tallied a pair of top-five finishes in diving, including a third place finish on the three-meter board (201.05).  te Velthuis clocked a 1:54.58 in the 200 free, which is the second fastest time in program history, to finish third at nationals.  She followed it up with a seventh-place finish in the 100 free (52.53).

Ali Pecore captured a national title in the 500 free to make it the third straight 500 free champion for UC.  The freshman negative split the event to edge out the competition with a winning time of 5:00.77.  That time is the third fastest time in program history.

Anastasiia Shatalova notched the final individual All-American honor as she went 52.80 to finish eighth in the 100 free.

All five of Cumberlands relays tallied top-five finishes at the championships led by the 200 medley relay that went 1:46.58 to finish as the national runner-up.  UC's 400 free relay (3:29.42) and 800 free relay (7:35.82) both set school records as they placed fourth and third, respectively.

The Patriots closed out the season with a 6-0 dual meet record before capturing their tenth straight Mid-South Conference title.
