Kingsport, TN – Coming off of a 10-4 win over second-ranked Keiser, a pair of Patriots were recognized for their efforts as
Thomas Fogarty earned the AAC Offensive Player of the Week while
Will Settle is the AAC Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials announce Monday. It marks the first time this season that either of them have earned the weekly honor.
Fogarty recorded five goals, six assists, and 12 points over the Patriots two games to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors. The senior opened the week with three goals and three assists in Cumberlands 19-2 win over St. Andrews. Fogarty netted a pair of goals in the first half and completed his second hat trick of the season minutes into the third quarter. The Farmington, MN native followed that up with five points in the win over Keiser. He netted a pair of goals in the first quarter to help UC jump out to a 4-0 lead. Forgarty dished out three assists as he was the offensive catalyst in the game helping Cumberlands to the 10-4 win.
Settle was nearly unstoppable in cage for the Patriots earning him AAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. The Huntingtown, MD native made 18 saves, while limiting opponents to just four goals in six quarters of work. Settle opened the week with five first half saves against St. Andrews, shutting the Knights out as the Patriots took a 13-0 lead at the break. The senior followed that up with 13 saves against second-ranked Keiser in the win. Settle made four saves in the first quarter and added five saves in the third quarter as Cumberlands took a 9-2 lead in the game. On the season, Settle has made 28 saves and has a 5.48 goals against average.
Cumberlands is 6-1 on the season and improved to 3-0 in AAC play after the two wins last week. It was the Patriots first win over a top-two ranked opponent since February 19, 2019 when UC defeated #1 Reinhardt.
The Patriots return home Wednesday, March 23, when they host SCAD-Savannah. The game is set for 5 p.m. with live stats available
