Gulf Shores, AL- After day one of the Carey Collegiate, the UC women's golf team currently sits in sixth place overall. Across 36 holes on Monday, Cumberlands notched a first round score of 659 (+83).
Leading the way for the Patriots is
Maria Neira. Neira started the day on hole 13 and tallied three pars on her first five holes. The freshman got off to a hot start, recording nine pars and a birdie through her first round of 18 holes. The Caracas, Venezuela native finished her first round of 18 holes with an 80 (+8). During her second round of 18 holes Neira tallied her second birdie on the 6
th hole, needing only two strokes to reach the pin. Neira carded a second round score of 79 (+7) after tallying 11 pars and a birdie. Neira's performance on day one garnered her of seventh place going into day two of the tournament.
Viviane Braun finished day one of the tournament tied for 29
th on the individual leaderboard. Through Braun's first round of 28 holes, she tallied eight total pars to finish with a round one score of 85 (+13). The Wegberg, Germany native's best round of the day came during her second round. The senior tallied nine pars and a birdie to conclude round two with a final score of 81 (+9). Braun finished day one with a combined score of 166 (+22), which is just two strokes behind 25
th overall.
Emily Allen finished day one tied for 32
nd on the individual leaderboard. Allen's best round of the day came during her second round of play, where she recorded five straight pars to open the round. Through her second set of 18 holes on the day, the freshman carded a score of 82 (+10). Through 36 holes, she carded 16 pars and two birdies to finish amongst the top-35 going into day two.
Elena Hortian finished day one in 36
th on the individual leaderboard. During round one of the tournament, Hortian carded an 89 (+17) after tallying six pars during the round. The sophomore's best round came during round two of the tournament, where she recorded ten pars and finished with a final score of 83 (+11). The Mallorca, Spain native finished day one with a final score of 172 (+28), which is one stroke from being in the top-35 of the tournament.
Sharon Holczer finished day one tied for 37
th on the individual leaderboard. The Caracas, Miranda native finished day one with a combined 36 hole score of 174 (+30), after carding 12 pars and two birdies.
The Patriots women's golf team will be back in action again tomorrow in Gulf Shores, AL to compete in day two of the Carey Collegiate.
