Columbus, GA – The University of the Cumberlands men's swimming and diving team scored 335 points to place third in the NAIA National Championships Saturday night.  This is the highest finish at the NAIA National Championships in program history.

John Morgan McDonald got the final session started with a strong performance in the 1650 free.  The senior clocked a 16:02.07 to place fifth overall in the event.  McDonald's strong start helped him break the 1,000 free school record as he clocked a 9:41.09, breaking the previous record of 9:44.63 by over three seconds.

Mikolaj Kala capped of his championships by breaking the Patriots school record in the 200 breast.  The Bytom, Poland native clocked a 2:01.74 to place fifth in the event and notch his second individual All-American honor.  Andres Caicedo dropped two seconds off of his prelims time to go 2:05.96 and place 12^th.

Kacper Sobieszuk notched a third place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 1:50.75. 

Ruben Gonzalez de Oliveira notched his second individual All-American honors as he led a trio of Patriots in the 100 free.  Gonzalez de Oliveira clocked a 45.70 to place fifth overall in the event.  After being seeded 14^th in the consolation final, Enzo Esteves touched the wall in 46.28 to win the consolation final, while Julio Heck da Silva went 46.85 to place 16^th.

Gonzalez de Oliveira, Esteves, Daniel Ruiz Ramis, and Julio Heck da Silva closed out the meet going 3:04.52 to place fifth in the 400 free relay.

The 335 points scored by Cumberlands over the 2022 championships are the most points since the 2007-08 season when they scored 362.
