Patriots Couldn’t Hang On To Take Game One Against Campbellsville

Campbellsville, KY– The Patriots falls in this defensive battle of a game to open this Mid-South series against Campbellsville 5-4 on Friday afternoon. The 25th- ranked Pats advance to a 20-13 record on the season.

Starting on the mound this game was Hunter Rigsby, he pitched 6.0 innings scattering three runs over eight hits, with one walk and seven strikeouts. Walter Hernandez came in relief and pitched 1.0 innings allowing one run on two hits and a strikeout. Chipper Korbacher also got an appearance as he pitched 1.2 innings, he will also get credited with the lost moving his record to 2-3.

The Tigers were able to get on the board first as they scored two runs in their first at bat. UC answered with a four-run half inning in the top of the second. Sujel Arias led off and got hit by a pitch, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Candido Encarnacion would get the first hit of the day for the Patriots as he singled through the right side, as Arias advanced to third. Two batters later after an out Seth Benner got walked to load the bases, and Andres Rolon followed with an RBI groundout as Arias went home to cut the lead to 2-1. Luis Alvarez came to the plate and got hit by a pitch to refill the bases. Then, Sean Cheely notched his three RBI triple down the right field line to take a 4-2 lead.

After some good pitching and tough defense for several innings, the Tigers was able to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of seventh, then walked off the game in the bottom of the ninth after a failed double play.

Cumberlands will remain in Campbellsville as they look to finish the MSC series tomorrow with a double header starting at noon.
