Williamsburg, KY – Coming off strong performances during the 3D and indoor season, the Cumberlands archery team kicked off their outdoor season in a similar fashion with eight top-three qualifiers and 12 podium finishes during team round on the first day of competition at the USA Outdoor Regionals.  The Patriots had four archers break school records, while one archer clipped the USA national record. 

Kennedy Sumpter led the way for UC carding a 515 during the qualification round, including hitting six 10's.  That score earned the freshman the top qualifying seed by 21 points and broke the school record by eight points, while she clipped the USA national record.  Katie Karr shot a 494 with five ten's to be the second the qualifier in the women's barebow division. 

Sumpter added a pair of gold medals on the day in the team rounds.  She first teamed with Tyler Woosley in mixed barebow and were the top seed.  The tandem defeated Union 5-1 in the semifinals before knocking off UPike 6-2 in the championship match.  Sumpter also anchored UC's women's barebow team to a gold medal as she teamed with Karr and Makaylee Branham to knock off Pikeville 6-2 in the championship match.

The Patriots placed five archers in the top ten of qualifying in the women's compound division, including holding the top two qualifying spots.  Brooke Miller led the way for UC with a 677 to earn the #1 seed in tomorrow's head-to-head matchup.  The senior hit 34 ten's en route to breaking the school record by two points as she now holds three of the top-four qualifying marks in program history.  Finishing one point back was Danielle Woodie, who carded a career-best 676 on the day.  Hannah Moose hit 31 ten's en route to a 670 to place fourth, while Marissa Harding (666) and Madison Grimm (663) also had top-ten finishes.

The trio of Miller, Moose, and Woodie won their two women's compound team matches by a combined 24 points to finish atop the podium.  They defeated Union 221-205 in the final match.

UC notched the top three qualifiers in the women's fixed pin division with Madison Cox, Kaitlyn Shields, and Kimber Wheeler.  Cox pulled away from the field with 669 points, including 30 ten's to pace the field.  Shields finished strong to shoot a 650 to earn the second seed, while Wheeler notched a 648 to place third.

Jacob Valentini has crushed the school record in the men's recurve division as he posted a 686, which is a 167 point career-best.  Reed Goodpaster tallied a 557 to earn the fourth-seed in qualifying.  

Tyler Woosley continued his incredible freshman campaign breaking the men's barebow program record.  Woosley carded a 485 with five ten's to qualify fourth.  Elijah Crawford now holds the second highest qualifying score as his 478 puts him in the top-five heading into tomorrow.

Cumberlands had three of the top four finishers in the women's recurve division.  Whitney Vandiver carded a 530 to earn the top-seed.  Lidia Quezada shot a 484 to place third, while Ceridwyn Salyers holds the fourth spot with a 462.

The Patriots had four archers place in the top-ten of the fixed pin men's division.  Brandon Durham carded a 659 to place fifth, while Elliott Cross was sixth with a 665.  Matthew England (654) and Hunter Larese (648) qualified seventh and eighth, respectfully.

Jase Boils posted a career-best qualifying score of 694 to qualify fifth in the men's compound division.  That score also is the fourth best score in program history.  Cole Zeug edged out Blaine Kostrzewski for seventh place 691 to 687.

In the mixed fixed team division Cox and Durham needed a one-arrow shoot-off to defeat Lindsey Wilson in the semifinals before running away with the gold 145-123 over Union.  Cumberlands final gold medal came in the men's barebow team rounds as Crawford, Ty Pennington, and Woosley edged out Pikeville in a shoot-off.

UC earned five runner-up finishes in team rounds along with a pair of bronze medal finishes as all 12 of UC teams reached the podium.

The Patriots will return to the field tomorrow, April 15, at 8 a.m. for the final day of the USA Outdoor Regional Championships.  The day kicks off with head-to-head eliminations, before Cumberlands shifts gears in the afternoon with the mixed team rounds of the MSC Championships.
