Fifth Straight Victory For The Patriots As They Run Rule Pikeville To Open The Series

Pikeville, KY– Patriots take their fifth straight win in the opening game of the weekend against Pikeville, 12-1 after notching another four homeruns. This win puts the Pats record at 29-14, headed into tomorrow's double header.

Hunter Rigsby started on the mound and pitched 3.0 innings only giving up one hit for one run, no walks and six strikeouts. Jake Kmiecik came in relief and pitch 4.0 innings, allowing only two hits with one strikeout. Kmiecik would get credited for the win and move his record to 2-0.

Offensively, four Patriots hit homeruns Charlie Muniz, Sujel Arias, Ray Villanueva, and Andres Rolon, while Rolon and Arias notched a double as well. Raphy Almanzar also went 3-4 at the plate.

In the opening inning, UC scored three runs with two outs to start the game. Charlie Muniz started with a two out solo homer to left field for the 1-0 lead. Sujel Arias followed with a double to right field, then Ray Villanueva hit a two-run shot over the left field fence for the 3-0 lead.

After a quick 1 2 3 inning, the Pats added one more run to the lead. With one out Andres Rolon doubled to right field. Two batters later Sean Cheely doubled to center field, bringing home Rolon with the 4-0 lead.

The Bears were able to score one run, then the Patriots answered with two runs. Luis Alvarez led off with a single to left center field, then stole second after a couple failed pickoff attempts. Cheely then came up to hit a sacrifice fly to advance the runner to third. Alvarez would go home on a wild pitch for the 5-1 lead. Raphy Almanzar would then single through the left side. Muniz got intentionally walked and Kevin Perez came into courtesy run. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Arias got walked to fill the bases. Villanueva reached on an RBI fielder's choice for the 6-1 lead.

In the next Patriots at bat, UC got one hit that was a homerun by Rolon for the 7-1 lead. In the top of the sixth, the Pats went ahead 9-1 as Almanzar led off with a single through the left side and advanced to second on an error. Two batters later, Arias hit his fifth homerun of the season, this time to left field bringing the lead to 9-1.

In the top of the seventh, UC scored three more runs, as Alvarez doubled through the right side. Cheely reached on an error and Alvarez went to third. Almanzar stepped up and hit an RBI single making the score 10-1. Muniz would then get walked to fill the bases. Arias then popped up to second base, but an error would send two more runs home for the 12-1 lead. UC was able to hold the Bears scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to get the run rule victory.

Cumberlands is back in action for tomorrow's double header as they look to sweep Pikeville and move their win streak to seven. First pitch is set for noon.
