Kingsport, TN – Coming off of a 21-2 win over sixth-seed St. Andrews in the quarterfinals of the AAC Tournament a pair of Patriots were recognized for their success in the game.
Christian Vanover was named the AAC Offensive Player of the Week, while
Will Settle was named the AAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Vanover led Cumberlands offense with a game-high six points, including a season-high five goals. The Cincinnati, OH native dished out an assist to
Dawson Coltran in the first quarter before added a goal midway through the second period. Later in the period, Vanover intercepted a pass and completed the man-up goal to make it 12-0. The sophomore added three goals in the third quarter to surpass his season-high. On the year, Vanover is second on the team with 35 goals and third with 19 assists and 54 points.
A near flawless performance leads to Settle earning the MSC Defensive Player of the Week. He finished the game with 11 saves, a .917 save percentage, and a season-high five ground balls. The Huntingtown, MD native made six first half saves, including five in the second quarter to keep the Knights scoreless at the break. Settle added five more saves in the third quarter, including two at point blank range, while he also notched a caused turnover. Settle has made 120 saves this season with a .600 save percentage on the year. He has limited opponents to 6.69 goals per game, which is fifth in the NAIA.
UC will return to the field Friday, April 22, as they travel to Waleska, GA to face second-seed Tennessee Wesleyan in the semifinals of the AAC Tournament. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
