Bowling Green, KY – After an impressive three appearances in the circle,
Morgan Radford earned Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by conference officials on Monday.
Radford was dealing all week, throwing 10 innings, surrendering zero runs and just seven hits. She was able to strikeout nine batters while not walking a single opponent. The ten straight scoreless innings from the Cookeville, TN native marks the longest of her career without conceding a run.
She went 2-0 on the week, picking up her first win against Milligan. She came in for three innings of relief pitching and shutdown the Mililgan offense, who was ahead when she entered the circle. The sophomore limited the Buffaloes to one hit in her 35 pitches.
Then Against Pikeville, Radford was a part of the UC pitching staff that did not give up a run. She pitched the complete five innings, in the team's 9-0 run-rule victory, marking her team best sixth complete game of the season. The Bears hitters were fooled all game long, only earning three hits, while going down on strikes five times, tying her third most in a contest this season.
Radford also started in the final game against Pikeville, that also resulted in a run-rule victory for the Patriots. She hurled two innings where she struckout three batters, with two of them coming in the third.
The weekly award is the first of Radford's collegiate career. She joins
Talli Burgess and
Kaiti White as UC pitchers to earn the honor this season, marking the Patriots as tied for the most pitching MSC weekly awards in the conference.
Cumberlands will be back in action for their regular season finale series when they take on Georgetown. The four-game series will begin on Friday, April 22 in Williamsburg, KY for a 3PM ET start.
