Bowling Green, KY- Patriots took down Georgetown in run rule fashion for the fourth time this season.
Seth Benner and
Charlie Muniz tallied homeruns and
Ray Villanueva got walked and was credited with the walkoff RBI.
Hunter Rigsby pitched his first complete game shutout of the season, as he scattered five hits over 8.0 innings with one walk and a season high 11 strikeouts. He moves to 3-1 on the season.
Offensively, multiple Patriots had two hit games, with
Andres Rolon leading the way as he went 3-3 at the plate with two RBIs. Muniz came up big with two hits, one being a homerun and four RBIs. Benner's lone hit was a two-run homer. While
Sean Cheely went 2-3 with a double and stolen base.
After a scoreless first inning, UC notched the first run of the game to take the lead.
Sujel Arias led off with a single towards third base and would advance to second on a failed pickoff attempt that turned into an error. After a walk, Rolon singled up the middle to get the 1-0 lead.
In the Patriots next at bat, Cheely doubled to left field to lead off. Next,
Raphy Almanzar singled on a bunt, which allowed Cheely to advance to third. Then on a ground out double play, Cheely would go home for the 2-0 lead.
Later in the sixth, UC added two more runs to their lead. With two outs, Benner hit his 11
th home run of the season this time to right center for the 3-0 lead.
Candido Encarnacion followed with a double to right center, and Rolon notched a base hit for an RBI to go up 4-0.
Then in the seventh, Cheely started the inning by getting walked, and stole second a few pitches later. Two batters later, Muniz hit his 18
th homerun of the season to left field for the 6-0 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Patriots tallied four runs to get the 10-0 run rule victory. The inning started with Encarnacion and Rolon getting walked. Two batters later, Cheely singled up the middle for an RBI as Encarnacion came home to score. Almanzar stepped up and notched a base hit to fill the bases. Muniz followed with a two RBI single to left field to take the 9-0 lead. After a pitching change, Arias got walk to fill the bases once again. Then Villanueva got an RBI from a walk, that pushed the Pats lead to 10-0.
The Patriots are back in action tomorrow evening as they take on Freed-Hardeman at 4 pm (CT) and 5 pm (ET)
