Team Canada Press Release

Ontario, Canada – Assistant Softball Coach Callum Pilgrim was selected to the Canadian National Softball Team for the 2022 Celebration Tour and Canada Cup International Softball Championship, announced by Softball Canada earlier this week.

Pilgrim was chosen as one of twenty athletes that will compete for Team Canada throughout June and July. First the team will travel to Ontario (June 16-18) and Saskatchewan (June 29-July 1) for the Celebration Tour and then to Surrey, B.C (June 20-26) for the Canada Cup.

"I'm so excited to grow with this team this summer," said Pilgrim. "It's an absolute honour to represent your country, and I'm so grateful for the group of women I get to share this opportunity with."

This past collegiate season was the first year for Pilgrim as an Assistant Softball Coach with Cumberlands. She coordinates the UC outfield defense and assists with the hitters, recruiting and opponent scouting. Under Pilgrim's guidance two outfielders made Mid-South Conference All-Conference honors in Hailey Wood and Emily Jasper. Wood was named MSC First Team and was the top defensive outfielder in the conference not committing a single error all year for a MSC Gold Glove.

Head Coach Bailey Dillender brought Pilgrim on board to work with the UC softball team due to her playing experience and overall knowledge of the game that has benefited the current team greatly. "The Pats are ecstatic for Cal and her opportunity to continue representing Team Canada," said Coach Dillender. "You would be hard pressed to find someone with more dedication and discipline than her."

The Abbotsford, B.C. native has regularly been a part of the Canadian National Team since 2015 and most recently was an alternate for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where Canada won the bronze medal, their first ever medal in softball. She made her Senior National Team debut in 2019 at the Canada Cup.

"I'm also really proud to represent the Pats", said Pilgrim. "I'm thankful for all the lessons learned this past season on both sides of the ball. The girls taught me so much this year, and I hope I can display that gratitude for them by finding joy in the game no matter what."
