2022 SOFTBALL ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA® TEAMS

Austin, TX – One of the most decorated players in UC softball history in Maddie Sickau adds Academic All-America to her name. She claims Second Team honors, being selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced by the organization on Tuesday.

Sickau makes it four straight seasons that a UC softball player got her name on the list with Hannah Stephenson earning the accolade in both 2019 and 2020 along with current teammate Hailey Wood earning the distinction in 2021. Cumberlands and Georgia Gwinnett are the only teams to have a student-athlete on the list in the NAIA over the last four seasons.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America Award looks at both athletics and academics over the course of a career. The Anderson County, TN is a senior nursing and exercise sports science major who has earned MSC Academic All-Conference three times as well as CoSIDA Academic All-District honors this season making her eligible for All-America status.

On the field, Sickau has led the Patriots every season she has played including this past year. She was at the top of the list for batting average (.371), hits (56), on-base percentage and walks (28) for the team. She is a three-time First Team MSC All-Conference winner and the program's only NAIA All-American, garnering the award in 2021. Sickau is now the only player in program history to be honored as both an athletic and academic All-American.

Sickau is the only representative from the Mid-South Conference to earn the accolade this season and is among 23 other softball student-athletes across the NAIA.

The 2021-22 Academic All-America Softball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
