Williamsburg, KY – The Patriots women's lacrosse team is coming off their fourth consecutive trip to the NAIA National Championships and why they have found continued success on the field, UC has also excelled academically. Cumberlands had six student-athletes named to IWLCA NAIA Academic Honor Roll, while the team was named an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad, officials announced on Wednesday.
Cumberlands six selections are the second most by any Mid-South Conference team this season.
Earning this distinction are
Carolina Johnson,
Rachel Leigh,
Olivia McCarrell,
Stephanie Meyer,
Bella Ricchiazzi, and
Katie Wharton. Meyer and Ricchiazzi are repeat recipients of this award as Ricchiazzi was also named the 2022 IWCLA NAIA Student-Athlete of the Year.
UC is one of 13 NAIA schools and one of 398 schools from across the country to garner this accolade.
Across the NAIA, 79 student-athletes from 17 different institutions earned this distinction. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 and be at least a junior. To earned IWLCA Academic Honor Squad honors, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 during the 2021-2022 academic year.
The Patriots went 18-3 on the season, capturing the MSC North Division championship.
