7/27/2022 11:10:00 AM

Williamsburg, KY- Cumberlands women's soccer looks ahead to their 2022 campaign, opening August 18. This year, the Patriots face eleven opponents that closed out last season ranked in the NAIA Top 25, including a match-up against the reigning NAIA national champion Tennessee Southern.

Coming off of consecutive NAIA final site appearances, in his eighth season Head Coach Steve Hamilton is looking to build upon that success. Hamilton says, "This year's schedule is one of the toughest since I have been here, which should challenge us throughout the season and get us prepared for a deep postseason run."

The full schedule amounts to 17 games, seven of which will be played at the UC Soccer Complex where the team recorded an impressive 8-2-1 record last season. After three consecutive NAIA Tournament appearances, the Patriots have stacked their schedule and aim to secure a national title.

UC faces six top-25 opponents on the road before playing their first home game. The season opener will be played in Cleveland, GA against #19 Truett McConnell. During the next two weeks, they have matches against #7 Marian, #3 Central Methodist, RV Jamestown, #5 Spring Arbor, and RV University of Northwestern.

Cumberlands home opener is against the 2021 SUN Conference tournament champions, Southeastern University on September 15.

The Patriots open their MSC campaign at home on September 22th against Freed-Hardeman. Last season the women secured a 3-0 victory over the Lions.
Before playing four straight home games, the Patriots are on the road against Bethel University on September 24.

Cumberlands longest home stand begins September 28 with Georgetown and Shawnee State. These matches are followed by two Top-25 ranked MSC opponents, #1 University of Tennessee Southern (Oct. 5) and #16 Cumberland University (Oct. 8).

Coach Hamilton and the team face another ranked opponents as they travel to Columbia, Kentucky to play #14 Lindsey Wilson on October 11. These two teams last met in the MSC semifinals with the Patriots coming away with the 2-0 win to advance to their third straight MSC title game.

Four days later, the team faces #23 ranked Campbellsville University before heading home to finish off the regular season. UC will host Thomas Moore on October 19 and Pikeville on October 26.

This year, the team aims to improve on its 16-6-2 record from the 2021 season. Coach Hamilton says, "The goal is to get this season off to a fast start and grow throughout the season to put ourselves in a strong position for a postseason run."

Cumberlands is set to travel to Truett McConell on August 18. Kickoff is set for 3 PM and the live stream can be viewed here.
