Williamsburg, KY – After qualifying for the program's third straight NAIA postseason appearance in 2021, the UC men's soccer team looks to continue their success into the 2022 campaign. Head Coach
Chris LeFevre has put together another impressive schedule, with 10 of the 16 games on the road and five opponents at least mentioned in the NAIA Coaches' Poll with two in the top-15.
The team will spend the first five matches on the road, competing first against Union on August 20 just up I-75 in Barbourville, KY. For the following week, the Patriots will travel to the Hoosier State for a pair of games first taking on Grace College and then against #22 Bethel (IN) on August 27. The two teams have not faced off since 2020 when Cumberlands defeated the Pilots 6-0 in the Opening Round of the NAIA Tournament.
UC finishes off their road trip with a pair of games in Rio Grande, OH over the weekend on September 2 and 4. First, they face the familiar foe of West Virginia Tech, who the Patriots will match up against for the fifth straight season. Cumberlands follows that game with the highest ranked opponent on their schedule in #13 Rio Grande, who ended the 2021 campaign on an 11-game win streak before falling to the eventual NAIA semifinalist Central Methodist.
September 10 is when the Patriots will play their home opener while also finishing their non-conference schedule. They will have the tough task of competing against 14
th ranked Lyon on the UC Soccer Complex.
A season ago, Cumberlands posted an 8-2-1 Mid-South Conference, with two of those wins against their first two MSC opponents in 2022. Both Freed-Hardeman and Bethel (TN) will host the Pats in the Volunteer State starting with Freed-Hardeman on September 22 before seeing Bethel (TN), two days later.
UC fans will then get four straight matches of home soccer starting with Georgetown on September 28. The month of October is started by matches against Shawnee State, UT-Southern, and (RV) Cumberland U who will all have to make the trek to Williamsburg, KY.
It will be a rematch of the 2021 MSC championship game when UC travels to #14 Lindsey Wilson on October 11. Over the past four games between the Patriots and Blue Raiders, the series is tied 2-2, with UC scoring three goals in each of their victories. Cumberlands will not have to travel far after the match, squaring off against Campbellsville on October 15.
The final regular season away match for UC is against Thomas More on October 19 followed by the home finale on October 26 against Pikeville.
The season opener for UC is just 20 days away at Union College. The game is scheduled for a 7PM kickoff on August 20.
