Year in Review: Archery

Williamsburg, KY - 2021-2022 was an historic season for the Patriots as they were dominant at both the conference and national levels.  Cumberlands found both individual and team success throughout the year culminating in the Patriots winning the 2022 USA Archery Outdoor National Championship for the first time in program history.  

THE YEAR IN NUMBERS

The Patriots capture two USA Archery national team titles.  UC opened the year winning their fourth straight 3D Archery national title.  The Patriots capped off the season with their first USA Archery Outdoor National Championship in program history. Cumberlands scored 147 points to end Texas A&M run of 18 straight championships.

A trio of Patriots were named USA All-Around Archer of the Year in their respective class.  Jase Boils (men's compound) and Madison Cox (women's fixed pin) have earned this distinction multiple times, while Tyler Woosley is UC's first men's barebow to earn this honor.

Part of their success this season, a pair of archer combined to set three new USA national records.  Madison Cox broke a pair of national records during the 2022 Indoor Archery Championship as she carded a 696 in the second round and an 1191 overall to break both the 600 and 1200 Fixed Pin record. Kennedy Sumpter made an immediate impact in barebow as she broke the outdoor record with a 571 during nationals.

 


18? Cumberlands lead the country with 18 USA Archery All-Americans this season. Those individual that earned this distinction are Aaron Adams, Jase Boils, Madison Cox, Brandon Durham, Madison Grimm, Marissa Harding, Blaine Kostrzewski, Hollyann Lewis, Brooke Miller, Hannah Moose, Carson Sapp, Ceridwyn Salyers, Julia Shepherd, Kaitlyn Shields, Whitney Vandiver, Kimber Wheeler, Tyler Woosley, and Cole Zeug.

UC recorded 13 national champions on the year with seven individual gold medals and six team round medals.  Madison Cox became the first Patriot to finish atop the podium at every championship in a season, while Jase Boils, Hannah Moose, Danielle Woodie, and Tyler Woosley each captured a gold medal.

The Patriots rewrote their record books as they set 18 new program records across the three seasons.
3D: Brandon Durham (fixed pin), Madison Cox (fixed Pin), Jase Boils (Compound), Hannah Moose (Compound), Jacob Valentini (Recurve), Lidia Quezada (recurve), Sierra Gray (barebow)
Indoor: Hunter Larese (Fixed Pin), Madison Cox (fixed pin), Jase Boils (fixed pin), Jacob Valentini (recurve), Tyler Woosley (barebow), Katie Karr (barebow)
Outdoor: Marissa Harding (Compound), Jacob Valentini (recurve), Whitney Vandiver (recurve), Ty Pennington (barebow), Kennedy Sumpter (barebowCumberlands racked up six MSC top honors! Kaitlyn Shields and Madison Cox were named Co-MSC Women's Shooter of the Year, while the Ceridwyn Saylers and Tyler Woosley swept the MSC Freshman of the Year honors.  Coaches Kris Strebeck and Caleb Kirby were named MSC Coaches of the Year.

Cumberlands had ten all-conference selections.  First Team: Madison Cox, Marissa Harding, Katie Karr, Hannah Moose, Ceridwyn Saylers, Kaitlyn Shields, and Tyler Woosley.  Second Team: Elijah Crawford, Lidia Quezada, Jacob Valentini.
