St. Louis, MO - Tenth-ranked Cumberlands gets their third win against a team mentioned in the NAIA Coaches' Poll with their latest victory over being a 1-0 win over (RV) University of Jamestown Sunday afternoon. The Patriots dominated offensively which lead to the lone goal of the match despite the Jimmies goalkeeper making eight saves during the game.
The Patriots led in every offensive category, racking up 12 shots on goal and 22 total shot attempts. During the first period, UC showcased their strengths on each side of ball. Goalkeeper
Laura Vogt recorded one save on the day after a complete game effort that resulted the teams second shutout of the year and her first win of the season. In the 35' minute,
Rita Aguye Cots made an impressive save that blocked a Jamestown goal attempt and kept the score 0-0. The Pats put ample pressure on the Jimmies defense when they racked up three shots on goal between the 9' and 15
' minute of the game. The back and forth in the opening 45 minutes had the the match remained scoreless heading into halftime.
The first, and only, goal of the game came in the 58' when
Ana Madahil made her first career assist to
Jayden Boelter before putting the ball past the Jimmie goalkeeper, making the score 1-0.This marks Boelter's fifth goal of the season and she now stands alone in fifth place for career goals on the all-time UC rankings. Two other Pats made notable offensive remarks today in
Abby Baker and
Olaya Blanco, each with two shots on goal.
For the remaining 32 minutes, UC fought hard to keep their lead over Jamestown. A back and forth effort by each team, including a combined eight shots went off in the remaining time by none were able to find the back of the goal as Cumberlands secures the 1-0 win.
The Patriots are now 3-0-1 against ranked opponents, and have showcased their skills in a variety of ways. They will continue their long stretch of away games this coming Saturday, September 3
