Lima, OH - Game one of the UNOH College Soccer Showcase ended in a 0-0 tie this afternoon after #10 Cumberlands faced off against #5 Spring Arbor. The Patriots women's soccer team showcased a strong defensive effort recording their third shutout of the season.
During the first period, the Patriot defense went to work against a strong Cougar offense. Spring Arbor recorded four shots on goal, each of which was recovered by goalkeeper
Georgia Martell. Last week, Martell earned both MSC and NAIA Defensive Player of the Week honors, and her performance today showcased all of her strengths.
At the half, the match stood at a 0-0.
Just thirty seconds into the second period, Spring Arbor attempted a header shot but it was saved by Martell, bringing her to five saves on the day. Cumberlands recorded their first shot on goal in the 57
th minute.
Rita Aguye Cots, one the Patriots most dominant forces this season, attempted an unassisted goal trying to reach the back of the Cougar net, but was caught and saved by the Spring Arbor goalie.
The Pats continued to fight on both sides of the ball.
Jayden Boelter recorded her own shot on goal in the 68' after she punted the ball towards the Cougar goal, barely finding the hands of the goalkeeper. In the remaining minutes, the Pats worked to keep the ball away from their opponent. Their defense prevented the Cougars from recording any shots on goal for the remainder of the game.
In a last ditch effort,
Alba Lorca scorched the ball through the air towards Spring Arbors net but the attempt was unsuccessful and the game ended in an 0-0 tie.
The Patriots will be in Lima, Ohio for the next few days as they prepare for their next match against (RV) University of Northwestern Ohio. Kickoff is set for 1PM, and the livestream will be available
