Bowling Green, KY – Coming off their highest ranking since 2004, the UC men's tennis team had three players post wins on the opening day of the ITA Regionals, Thursday afternoon. In addition to the three singles players, UC has two doubles teams advance to the Round of 16. 

The day opened up with doubles play with UC capturing the number one seed in the form of the tandem of Martin Muller and Robert Wu Hung-Ju. The pair of juniors had a bye in round one and will be facing Agudelo and Suarez from Bluefield. 
 

Quentin Villetorte and Mattis Le Montagner joined Muller and Wu in the next round as they made quick work of their opponents in their opening match. Their first contest was against a pair of freshmen, Taleish and Wamba, from Midway University with the UC duo advancing. This tandem will play in the Round of 16 against Marques and Almeida from the ninth-seeded Lindsey Wilson. 

Singles play in the afternoon proved to be as successful as three of UC's competitors advanced. Newcomer Thiago Petry started things for the Patriots as he faced senior Parker Clarke of Georgetown, who was disposed of 6-3, 6-3. Petty went on to beat Luis Gullierma 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the third round. 

Martin Muller was given a first round bye, after which he faced Lucas Marques and won 6-2, 6-3. Muller will play teammate Wu in the morning. 
 

Robert Wu Hung-Ju began the day beating Daniel Wessles (Cumberland U) 7-5, 6-4, and finished UC's day with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Joaquin Mersh to move everyone along to Friday's events. 

Christian de la Fuente Nodado opened up the tournament against Dan Slapnik Trost of Cumberland. The two split the set 6-1, 4-6, then La Fuente went 10-4 in the tiebreaker to come out victorious. After which, he fell short against Pavel Kelo (Cumberland) losing in two sets 6-1, 6-4. 

Match play will begin Friday morning at 9:00 in Bowling Green, KY.
