Williamsburg, KY – The UC archery team totaled 20 podium finishes, including nine gold medals, to capture their sixth straight Mid-South Conference 3D championship Saturday afternoon at the UC All-Purpose Field.  Not only did the Patriots run away with the win, UC also set a new conference record with 207 points, surpassing the previous record of 205 set last year.

"Happy to see the hard work that everyone that has put in paid off," said Head Coach Kris Strebeck. "It was awesome to see all division contributing as well as getting big time performances from both veterans and newcomers."

The Patriots opened the day with 17 archers taking part in the individual shoot downs with three of them claiming conference titles.  Brianna Laux captured gold in women's recurve, while Marissa Harding and Cole Zeug swept the top spot in their respective compound class.

Laux entered the day as the second-seed and opened the morning with three straight tens.  The Lowell, MI native hit a 12 on the fourth round, which proved to be the difference after she closed out with two more tens.  Laux finished with a 62 to finish atop the podium by two points.  Lidia Quezada tallied a 53 to place fourth and earn four-points.

Harding collected her second individual gold medal of the weekend with a strong performance in the women's compound division.  The sophomore hit three bonus rings, including a 14 on her fifth target to take part in a three person one-arrow shoot-off. Harding ultimately won the shoot-off earning the top podium spot.  Teammate Hannah Moose was also part of the shoot-off and took home bronze.  Danielle Woodie scored 62 points to place fourth.

Zeug was the lone Patriots competitor in the men's compound division. After opening with a ten, Zeug carded a 12 and 14 on consecutive targets to take a two-point lead.  He maintained his lead the rest of the way, closing out with back-to-back 12's and finishing with a 70 to claim his first individual conference title.

UC had four of the five competitors in the women's fixed pin division.  Madison Cox carded five 10's and 12 to finish tied for first heading into a one-arrow shoot-off.  Cox ultimately earned runner-up honors, while teammate Kaitlyn Shields cared a 56 to earn the bronze.  Julia Shepherd and Cammie Shuman rounded out Cumberlands top five scoring 54 and 41 points, respectively.

The Patriots collected three more runner-up finishes all of which came from archers that improved on their seeding. Elijah Crawford entered the men's barebow division as the fifth-seed, however, strong shooting throughout the targets gave the junior separation from the field as he earned silver.  In the men's recurve division, it was Clay Weaver who climbed two spots and placed second with 66 points after falling in a shoot-off.  Hunter Larese finished runner-up in the men's fixed pin division with 62 points.

Taking a lead into the team rounds, the Patriots continued to leave their imprint on the podium.  Entering as the fourth-seed in mixed barebow, the duo of Crawford and Sierra Gray went 3-0 to win gold.  The tandem defeated Kentucky Christian 80-54, before knocking off top-seed Pikeville 84-77. In the gold medal match Crawford and Gray teamed up for the 100-93 win.

The mixed recurve team of Laux and Weaver won both of their matches in commanding fashion to collect gold.  The duo knocked off top-seed Pikeville 118-112 in the gold medal match.  UC's mixed fixed pin team of Cox and Connor Mullis carded a runner-up finish.

UC collected three more first-place finishes during the team rounds.  The top-seeded men's barebow team started things off with an 18-point win over Campbellsville in the semifinals.  In the championship match the trio of Crawford, Jonathan Morris, and Tyler Woosley took out Lindsey Wilson 155-143 to earn gold.

Cumberlands also earned the top-seed in the women's recurve, women's fixed pins, and women's compounds divisions and all of them held true.  Laux, Quezada, and Vandiver defeated UPIKE 171-164 to earn the top spot in women's recurve.  Cox, Shepherd, and Shields cruised into the gold medal match and then edged out the Bears 178-175 for gold. 

Harding, Moose, and Woodie closed out the championship with the final gold medal of the day.  The trio defeated Union 176-173 in the semifinals and took down Pikeville 182-178 in the championship match.
UC will now turn its attention to the USA 3D National Championships, which are set to take place October 13-15 in Foley, AL.
