Williamsburg, KY- The #4 Patriots took home field advantage to the extreme after an impressive offensive campaign with a 4-0 win against the Georgetown Tigers Wednesday afternoon at the UC Soccer Complex. UC scored four goals to tie the season high they had previously earned in their first game against #21 Truett McConnell.
Cumberlands came out of the gate hot, recording their first goal within 10 minutes of the first horn. A fast break by
Jayden Boelter moved the ball up the field until it was just outside of the 18-yard box. Boelter passed it to
Carola Fontan, who made two quick moves and then fired the ball into the left side of the net bringing the score to 1-0.
This duo has been crucial for the Patriots in recent outings. This goal gives Boelter her second assist and Fontan her third goal of the 2022 season.
Just two minutes later in the 10', the Patriots strike again. Program assist leader
Laura Navajas dribbled the ball up the field and sent a quick pass over to Boelter from just outside the 18-yard box. A one-touch by Boelter and the ball goes flying passed the Tiger goalkeeper bumping UC's lead and making the score 2-0.
Navajas broke the program assist record after getting two assists in last week's match-up against (RV) Bethel. The senior recorded two assists during the Georgetown match, the second of which came in the 22
nd minute.
Running through a cluster of Tigers, Navajas emerged 25 yards out from the goal before sending a quick pass over the Boelter. The Hebron, KY native launched the ball into the top of the Tiger goal making the score 3-0. This is Boelter's fourth brace of the month and ninth of her career. Her performance in today's match brings the sophomore to 13 goals on the season, tying her for fifth in the NAIA.
Cumberlands scored one additional goal before the end of the first half. After a double assist from
Alba Lorca and
Rita Aguye Cots, who sent the ball through the air towards the Georgetown goalkeeper, defender
Amalia Wichmann headed the ball into the back of the net. A corner kick put the Patriot defense on the goal line, giving Wichmann the chance to record the first goal of her UC career.
Going into the second half, Cumberlands was up 4-0 and had to outshout the Tigers 14-0 with eight shots on goal.
The Patriots defense shined during the second half with a save% of 1.000. Defenders kept the Tiger offense to just three shot attempts, each of which was saved by a UC goalkeeper. Goalkeeper
Laura Vogt made her first and only save of the game in the 59' after catching the ball to the right of the Patriot goalpost.
Coming into the game in the 85' was goalkeeper
Savannah Prigmore, making her 2022 season debut. In the same minute, a Georgetown forward sent the ball flying towards the top of the Patriot net but the 5'9 senior used her height to tip the ball above the crossbar. Prigmore recorded one additional save before the game ended, giving the Patriots their seventh win of the year.
