Patriots Find Success in Louisville

Louisville, KY – Cumberlands Men's Track & Field team were in action Friday at the Bellarmine Open.  A win and numerous top-five finishes highlight the day's performances.
 
Leonardo Daley led all UC's finishers on the day with a first-place finish in the 60m hurdles. Daley finished in 8.41 in the gold medal performance. Nathan Howard and Connor Arroyo clocked times of 9.08 and 9.11 for eighth and ninth place.
 
Matthew Chavers sprinted to a podium finish in the 60m dash. He crossed the finish in 7.04 for second overall. Andrew Josephs finished sixth in 7.09 while Keanu Galima was tenth, finishing in 7.15. Daley also raced in the 60, placing 17th with a 7.30 finish.
 
Chavers also competed in the long jump where he came away with a fourth place finish. He leaped 6.51m while Colby Bales hit the 5.49m mark for 12th. Bales was the lone Patriot in the high jump, earning fifth after a 1.75m jump.
 
A trio of Pats finished top-eight in the 200m dash with Kerrington Eubanks leading the way. Eubanks ran his lap in 22.40 for fourth with Ryan Long just behind him in fifth with a 22.53 time. Chavers sprinted to a 22.57 eighth place finish while Galima clocked a 23.04 for 13th.
 
The 800m featured five UC runners. Lonnell Johnson finished fourth to lead the group with a 1:57.56 time. Garrett Hadaway and Dillan Melchoire crossed the finish line two seconds apart in 2:02.52 and 2:04.43 for 16th and 20th. James Overholser and Brian Nwachukwu rounded out UC's runners with 28th and 29th place finishes respectively.
 
Jeremy Slaughter came away with an eighth-place finish in the 400m followed by Deshawn Crowe who placed ninth. Slaughter raced his two laps in 51.74 while Crowe finished in 51.75. Christian Dingus and Matthew Yeary posted 17th and 18th finishes in the 400m as well.
 
Kyle Woodward and Noah McClellan highlighted UC's distance runners on Friday. Woodward placed 25th in the 3000m with a 8:57.87 finish with McClellan racing to a 24th place finish in the mile after clocking a 4:26.97.
 
The 4x400 relay completed UC's day on the track. The squad of Slaughter, Eubanks, Johnson, and Crowe came away with a fourth place finish after a 3:24.18 finish. Josephs, Hadaway, Galima, and Long were featured on UC's second relay team who placed eighth after finishing in 3:40.82.
 
Tristan Petrey's performance in the pole vault earned a podium finish. His 4.43m mark earned a third place finish. Logan Lambo cleared the bar at 3.83m for fourth place as well.
 
Throwers James Crawford, Logan White, and Aaron Coffey rounded out UC's competitors in Louisville. Crawford came away with a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a 12.61m throw while White placed 15th with an 11.65m mark. Coffey entered the circle for the weight throw and came away with 13th after an 11.43m toss.
 
Cumberlands will be back in action on Sunday at the COROS Collegiate Challenge where a handful of athletes are set to compete in the racewalk and relay events.
