Austin, TX – After another incredible year on the track and in the classroom, a trio of Patriots earned CSC Academic All-America First-Team Honors, including
Luca Madeo who was named NAIA CSC T&F Team Member of the Year, College Sports Communicators announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Kerrington Eubanks and
Nigel Steenwinkel join their teammate on the first team. marking the first time that three Patriots have been named CSC Academic All-America honorees in the same year.
"This award illustrates the highest discipline for Luca both academically and athletically.," said Head Coach
Bradley Sowder. "It is a tremendous hoor for him to receive this award."
Madeo had a historic season at UC, winning two individual national titles and three-total All-American finishes. He started the year with a top-10 finish at cross country nationals before a dominant indoor season that saw him break the 5K school record with a 14:06.19 and go on to win the first national title of his career. Madeo's 10 points helped the team to a national runner-up finish as well. The sophomore then posted a 29:01 10K finish to not only break the school record but also etch his name as a top-4 10K runner in NAIA history. Madeo went on to win the 10000m national title with ease for his second championship of the season.
Luca Madeo posted a 3.97 GPA on the year as an Exercise Sports Science major, earning NAIA Daktronic Scholar Athlete and MSC Academic All-Conference accolades. He becomes the second straight men's track athlete to be named CSC Team Member of the Year, as Carson Johnson earned these honors a season ago. Madeo is just the eighth student-athlete in program history to earn CSC top honors.
Eubanks also added a national title to his resume this season, as he helped the men's 4x400 earn their first ever first-place finish at outdoor nationals. They posted a 3:08.12 season best during outdoor to break the school record as well. Indoor saw Eubanks come away with a third place 4x400 at nationals for another All-American finish. They crossed the finish line in 3:10.81 to score six team points, helping UC earn national runner-up as a team. The junior also continued his dominance at the conference level, earning his 17
th All-Conference finish while winning a total of eight MSC titles in his career, both marking program bests.
Kerrington Eubanks was a double major for UC, posting a 3.93 as a Business Administration and Criminal Justice major. The Lexington, KY native earned NAIA Daktronics Scholar Athlete and MSC Academic All-Conference for the second year in a row as well.
Steenwinkel earned a pair of All-American finishes on the year, competing in the heptathlon and decathlon at NAIA Nationals. Indoor saw the senior finish seventh overall at the national championships. Steenwinkel holds the school record with 5,123 points, set back in 2024. Outdoor saw a top-four finish from the multis athlete, his third as a Patriot. His decathlon best of 6,883 is UC's program record as well. Nigel also dominated at the MSC Championships, winning Indoor Athlete of the Year honors after top-three finishes in the 60 hurdles, pole vault, and long jump.
In the classroom,
Nigel Steenwinkel earned above a 3.5 as a double major in Exercise Sports Science and Coaching. He was named an NAIA Daktronics Scholar Athlete as well as an MSC Academic All-Conference honoree.
The trio gives the UC Men's Track & Field program eight total CSC Academic All-America honorees, and six in the last three seasons.
