Georgetown, KY – After an offensively filled first half, the Patriots secured a 4-2 victory over Georgetown College on Friday evening at the Toyota Stadium. Cumberlands is now 6-2-3 on the season and improves to 3-1 in conference play.
Altogether, UC had 12 shots with five being on frame.
Shuma Sasaki led the way with two goals and two shots with two on frame.
Salvador Martinez followed with two goals, three shots with two on frame, rounded out by
Mario Fernandez with two shots with one on frame.
The Patriots attacked early in the 10
th minute of play with a pass from
Bruno Garcia to Karl Emil-Andersen was sent up the field to Martinez for his first goal of the day and a 1-0 Pats lead.
UC continued to be aggressive, seeing a pass from Martinez a cross the box to Sasaki for his first goal of the 2023 season and an early 2-0 advantage.
In the 43', a pass from Garcia up the field to Sasaki saw his second goal of the evening and raised the score to 3-0. Seconds later, a pass from Fernandez to Martinez saw his second goal of the evening, sending the Pats into the half with a 4-0 lead.
The second half saw the Patriots take a defensive stance against the Tigers. In the 48
th minute, the Tigers scored their first goal of the evening to make the score 4-1.
In the 64', the Tigers were seen scoring their second goal of the evening to make the score 4-2. The Patriots continued to work hard on defense with
Brandon Diaz recording three saves to secure a 4-2 MSC victory over the Tigers.
UC will be back in action in just 12 days time, traveling to face Cumberland University (TN). The game is set to kick off at 3:30 PM ET on Wednesday, October 25 in Lebanon, TN.
