Lebanon, TN – After a valiant effort and evenly matched game, the Patriots recorded a 1-1 draw against Cumberland University (TN) on Wednesday. Cumberlands is now 6-2-4 on the season, 3-1-1 in MSC play.
Altogether, UC had 12 shots with four being on frame.
Mario Fernandez tallied the lone goal of the game with two shots on frame.
Emil Skursch and
Toufik Najem followed with one shot and one on frame, rounded out by
Jesus Macaya with two shots.
The Patriots were on the offensive side in the first half with their two corner kicks from Skursch and a blocked shot from Fernandez. The Pats saw their first shot on frame in the 11
th minute of play from Fernandez, followed by another blocked shot from
Salvador Martinez.
In the final minute of the first half, a shot from
Shuma Sasaki missed just wide. Fernandez recovered the shot to score the Patriots lone goal of the afternoon and to take a 1-0 advantage going into the second half.
In the second half, UC continued to be aggressive on offense with a shot on frame from
Toufik Najem in the 46'. In the 78
th minute, a yellow card on the Patriots resulted in a penalty kick goal for the Phoenix and tied the match at 1-1.
UC worked on offense with one shot on frame and one corner kick in the final minutes of play. A wide shot prevented the Phoenix from getting the upper hand, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
UC will be back in action in just five days time, returning to the UC Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. The game against #5 Lindsey Wilson College is set to kick off at 7:00 PM ET on Monday, October 30 in Williamsburg, KY.
