Barbourville, KY – The Cumberlands men's swimming & diving team tallied ten wins to defeated Union 152.5-55.5 Friday afternoon. On the day, the Patriots achieved six NAIA provisional cuts, while seven different athletes won their respective events.
A trio of swimmers achieved the NAIA provisional cut in the 50 free led by newcomer
Agustin Rasche, who clocked a 21.73.
Ruben Gonzalez de Oliveira touched the wall in 21.81 to finish second, while Ruithiik Satti went 21.93.
Gonzalez de Oliveira tallied his second NAIA provisional cut as he won the 100 free going 47.30. Mateus Cruz and
Thomas Holzkamm also clipped their respective provisional cut. Cruz clocked a 52.63 to win the 100 back, while Holzkamm pulled away from the field to win the 100 fly with a time of 52.52.
Will Gilbert is the lone Patriot with multiple wins on the day. He opened by going 10:32.31 to win the 1000 free, before rallying in the 500 free with a time of 4:54.25.
Peyton Berter edged out
Leon Irmer for first place in the 200 IM as the duo went 2:02.07 and 2:03.68, respectively. In his Patriots debut,
Peyton Anderson collected UC's final individual win as he took top honors on the one-meter board.
Cumberlands closed out the meet with Gonzalez de Oliveira, Rasche, Satti, and Eli Henry teaming up to win the 200 free relay. The quartet clocked a time of 1:26.97 to earn the win by over three seconds.
The Patriots will return to the pool Saturday, October 21, when they travel to Columbia, KY to face Lindsey Wilson. The meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
